Shawn M. Salapata, 42, of McDonald, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on May 17, 2025 while riding ATVs – doing what he loved most: living life to the fullest and embracing adventure. Shawn’s vibrant energy, booming laugh, and endless store of trivia made him unforgettable to everyone lucky enough to really know him. He had a presence that filled every room, a wit that could outpace anyone, and a heart that never hesitated to show up for the people he loved.
Shawn was fiercely loyal – strong in his convictions, if you were part of his circle, you knew you could count on him, no questions asked. He stood up for what he believed in, even when it meant standing alone. He carried that same sense of dedication into everything he did, from friendships to family to the USPS, where he proudly worked. Though he was committed to his job, Shawn believed firmly that “work was to pay for life, not be your life,” and he lived that philosophy to its fullest.
A devoted Penn State fan, Shawn bled blue and white. Saturdays in the fall were non-negotiable. It was no secret that he would unapologetically skip important events if the Nittany Lions were playing. If Penn State had a game, Shawn had a seat, whether it was in the stadium or on the couch, wearing his lucky jacket and coaching from afar.
Shawn loved all things sports and music. He rarely missed a concert, loved the energy of a packed stadium, and could often be found at his nieces’ games- cheering them on and often offering “coaching” from the stands with passionate enthusiasm. He was also a master of random facts and trivia- able to answer questions faster than Google. Whether it was game night or just a random conversation, Shawn had a fact (or five) ready to go.
Shawn is survived by his beloved wife, Audria; his parents Harry and Kathy Salapata; his grandmother Mary Stabile; his siblings Michael (Christina) Salapata, David (Diana) Salapata, and Lisa (George) Nicklow, and his many aunts, uncles and cousins. He cherished his nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Shawn. He is also survived by his brothers by marriage and choice: David (Debbie) Ramsey Jr., Dean Ramsey, Joseph Bustos, and Terry (Abbey) Boggs- friends who became family, bonded by loyalty, love and countless memories.
He was preceded by death by his grandparents Mary and John Salapata, and John “Pops” Stabile, whose influence and love helped shape the man Shawn became.
Family and friends will gather privately to celebrate Shawn’s life. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Marienville Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 446, Marienville, PA 16239, in honor of those who answered the call.
The Salapata and Ramsey families extend their heartfelt thanks to the first people on the scene, Wildlife Resource Officers, State Police, EMS, and the brave volunteer firefighters who worked tirelessly to try to save Shawn’s life. Your efforts and compassion will never be forgotten.
Shawn lived loudly, laughed often, and loved fiercely. He leaves behind a memory of unforgettable memories, unwavering loyalty, and a reminder to never miss a game- or a good story.
