THE NFL world is in mourning following the tragic loss of legendary Indianapolis Colts owner and CEO Jim Irsay.
Irsay passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday afternoon, but no cause of death was given.
Irsay presided over the most successful era in Colts history, which began with the team drafting quarterback Peyton Manning in 1998.
The club went on to become one of the league’s most dominant teams in the 2000s.
In 2006, the Colts won their first Championship in 36 seasons with a victory in Super Bowl XLI, beating the Chicago Bears, 29-17.

Jim Irsay became the owner of the Indianapolis Colts following the death of his father, Robert, in 1997.
It appears that his children will now follow in his footsteps with the Colts’ succession plan involving his three daughters, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt and Kalen Jackson, who each currently hold the title of vice chair/owner.

In recent years, Irsay-Gordon has served on multiple NFL committees and contributes to the Colts’ football operations and social media and content strategy.

Robert Irsay bought the Colts for $12million in 1972, when the Irsay dynasty began.
Now, the team are worth a mammoth $4.8billion, according to Forbes in August 2024.
In this day and age, when teams are valued in the billions and not the tens of millions, the Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable NFL team at over $10billion, while the Colts sit 25th on the list.
