Clarkson’s Farm is back for a fourth season, promising more animal husbandry antics, farming machinery mayhem, and the odd brush with local planners.
The Prime Video show has proved a hit with viewers as it chronicles the capers of Jeremy Clarkson in his bid to become a farmer, and in this season, a publican as well.
Aside from the stunning Cotswolds scenery and the Schadenfreude of watching the former Top Gear and Grand Tour presenter struggle in a quagmire of pigs’ muck, one of the key attractions of the show is the cast of characters who work alongside Clarkson on the farm.
Some, such as farm manager Kaleb Cooper, have become stars in their own right, others like Harriet Cowan are new to this season.
All offer a different insight into the realities of rural life and farming in the UK and come together to create a kind of misfit family on the farm, giving the show its heart – and often best comedy moments.

Kaleb Cooper, 26, is arguably the stand-out star of the show. The down-to-earth and amusing farmer was the former farm hand and tractor driver at Diddly Squat Farm before Clarkson bought it. He has become key to the running of the enterprise under its new ownership, promoted to farm manager in season three. He has also tried to teach Clarkson about farming along the way.
Discussing how Kaleb came to be on the show, Clarkson said: “We needed a tractor driver for the series and we looked everywhere.
“I said: ‘I tell you what, you could look at the guy who’s actually doing the tractoring here now anyway’. So we got Kaleb and I think you’ll all agree he’s good on television.”
The young father-of-two, who was born and grew up in Chipping Norton in the Cotswolds, started helping out on a local dairy farm at the age of 13 and trained in agriculture at Moreton Morrell College in Warwickshire after leaving school.
Aside from his work on Clarkson’s Farm, he runs his own farming contracting business and has recently been on a nationwide tour promoting farming.
He has also published a series of books: The World According to Kaleb, Britain According to Kaleb: The Wonderful World of Country Life, and It’s a Farming Thing: Life According to Kaleb, the Breakout Star of Clarkson’s Farm.

Born in Dublin, she had a successful modelling career and appeared in the film Fierce Creatures before marrying Baron Steven Bentinck, a Madrid-based private art collector. The couple, who have three children – Wolfe, Alice and Lizzy –separated in 2005.
Alongside helping out and being hands-on with the farming, Lisa co-founded and runs the Diddly Squat Farm Shop. She also has an art studio in London, where she works once a week.

Charlie Ireland is a land agent and adviser on all matters farming-related on Clarkson’s Farm.
Often the bearer of bad tidings in relation to financial or farming matters, he has been given the nickname “Cheerful Charlie”.
A managing partner at farming consultancy firm Ceres Rural, he has a degree in agriculture from the University of Nottingham.
He began working with Clarkson in 2019 when the former Grand Tour presenter bought the farm.
Ireland has previously said trying to tell Clarkson how to do something is not always easy – “you’ve got to let him work it out for himself sometimes”.
Harriet Cowan

The 24-year-old grew up on a farm in Derbyshire and trained as a nurse at the University of Derby.
She works as a nurse, but also helps out on the family farm, and was drafted in for part of season four to cover while Kaleb was away on tour.
On meeting Clarkson, she admitted she had not watched the show before but clips of the new season in the trailer reveal she more than proved herself on the job, with the the presenter referring to her as “brilliant”.
She is not taking over from Kaleb, however, as Clarkson made clear in a recent Instagram post.
He stated: “There’ve been loads of reports recently saying that Kaleb has been replaced.
“Well he hasn’t – he’s over there now, rolling the dribble of moisture we had yesterday into his mustard.
“So, what happened is this: he went away on his speaking tour for a couple of months, because he imagined that after four years, I’d be able to manage on my own. And I didn’t.
“I made a complete mess of everything and had to bring in a young farmer called Harriet, who was brilliant, and looked after the fort ’till he got back.
“That’s it. That’s the story.”

Gerald Cooper, 76, has worked on the farm for more than 50 years helping with the harvest, driving the combine harvester, and maintaining the 14 miles of dry stone walls that form the boundary of the farm in Chadlington.
Nicknamed the “head of security”, the running joke on the show is that his West Country accent is incomprehensible to Clarkson and so is shown with subtitles.
He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in season three but has since been given the all-clear after treatment.
Alan Townsend

He is known for his constant exasperation with Clarkson’s ideas and unrealistic deadlines.
Townsend has worked as a builder for 45 years and was friends with Clarkson before the farm show.
He has been instrumental in the construction of the farm shop, the short-lived restaurant and now the newly opened pub.
