Spurs got their hands on the trophy to book their place in next season’s Champions League.

Brennan Johnson’s goal also ended their 17-year wait for a piece of silverware.

The Tottenham celebrations began and Romero was making his way around some of the Man United players to shake their hands.

Maguire seemed to ignore the Argentina international as he walked on by.

As Romero walked to another player, Maguire then rushed towards his opponent and pushed him away.

Members of the coaching staff from both teams stepped in to separate them and prevent it from escalating further.

It was one of several clashes that involved the pair throughout the match.

One flashpoint saw Romero go down holding his face following a challenge by Rasmus Hojlund.

Maguire walked up to the World Cup winner and appeared angrily react to Romero’s antics.

Fans think he told him: “You’re the captain, come on.”

It was all smiles for Tottenham as they lifted the Europa League and started the wild celebrations.

Goalscorer Brennan Johnson said: “I’m so happy right now. This season hasn’t been good at all but not one of us players care about that now.

“This club hasn’t won a trophy for 17 years, it means so much. All the fans get battered, we get battered for not winning anything so we had to get the first one in a while today.

“Ever since I came here it’s been ‘Tottenham are a good team but they can’t get it done’. But we got it done.

“Tottenham Hotspur finishing 17th in the Premier League is not good enough but we’ve had an unbelievable Europa run. I thought our fans had the edge on the United fans.”
