Cardinals sign J.J. Russell, release Milo Eifler

The Arizona Cardinals signed J.J. Russell and released fellow linebacker Milo Eifler on Wednesday.

Russell spent the past three years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and in 2024 tallied 33 tackles with a fumble recovery and pass defensed in 16 games.

A career special teamer, the 26-year-old Memphis Tigers product was thrown into the defensive mix midway through last season. He appeared in at least 59% of the snaps over the final five weeks of Tampa Bay’s season, in which they notably went 4-1.

Russell joins an inside linebacker group that has not re-signed middle linebacker Kyzir White, who remains a free agent, and returns Mack Wilson Sr. and third-year pro Owen Pappoe.

If White doesn’t return, his replacement will likely be an open competition.

The Cardinals added notable free agents Akeem Davis-Gaither and Mykal Walker, as well as fourth-round draft pick Cody Simon out of Ohio State.

Eifler has 17 games of NFL experience and four career tackles.

He has played for Washington (2021-22), Atlanta (2023) and Arizona last season.
