THE Pittsburgh Steelers will reportedly give more free rein to Aaron Rodgers than Russell Wilson.
Rodgers has been expected to sign a contract with the Steelers worth at least $10 million for the 2025 season.
Mike Tomlin and the Steelers continue to wait on a decision from the 41-year-old Rodgers.
The four-time NFL MVP has contemplated his future over the last few months, but numerous trusted insiders believe it’s only a matter of time before Rodgers becomes a Steeler.
So, if and when Rodgers joins the Steelers, there will be wonders about how he will function in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith’s offense.
It was reported this offseason that Pittsburgh limited the veteran quarterback Wilson’s control in the offense last season.
But Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Brian Batko believes that the Steelers will hand the keys to the offense to Rodgers and give him “more freedom,” compared to recent memory with their quarterbacks.
“I think that’s a lot of why [Mike] Tomlin is attracted to Rodgers in the first place,” Batko wrote.
“He’s probably the best of a lot of cheap options in terms of his mastery of the game combined with the ability to still do some of what he used to physically.
“If he’s getting them in and out of the right plays pre-snap, it could be a boost to the run game, as well.
“So we’ll see.”
The Steelers begin OTAs (Organized Team Activities) next week.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero recently said Rodgers penning a deal with the iconic franchise is “a matter of when, not if.”
“Is it the week of minicamp?” said Pelissero on The Rich Eisen Show.
“Is it the day after minicamp? Is it the week before training camp?
“Is it the day before training camp begins? Somewhere in that bandwidth, I believe.
“I don’t know this for a fact because we’re talking about the enigma of the NFL here.

“It’s a matter of when, not if. It has not changed.”
Rodgers spoke with Tomlin about becoming a Steelers recently.
The veteran appeared on The Pat McAfee Show last month and admitted that he’s willing to settle for a little as $10 million a season.

But Rodgers also revealed that he’s dealing with personal issues that have caused him to think more about his future.
He was cut by the New York Jets in March after a 28-touchdown and 11-interception season.
