Traumatised Nahid Rana And Two Support Staff Members Pull Out Of Pakistan Tour

Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana and two members of the support staff have pulled out of the upcoming tour of Pakistan. Bangladesh are scheduled to play a three-match T20I series against Pakistan, starting on May 29.

The original series consisted of three ODIs and as many T20Is but was subsequently revised to five T20Is. However, the series was in doubt due to the cross-border tension between India and Pakistan which also led to the suspension of the Pakistan Super League for nearly two weeks.

However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) eventually agreed on playing three T20Is in Pakistan. According to reports, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi traveled to the UAE to talk to senior BCB officials and salvage the series. On Wednesday (May 21), the PCB finally announced the schedule of the three-match series.

Nahid Rana opts out of Pakistan T20Is:

While the BCB has given the series against Pakistan the green light, Nahid Rana has decided against traveling to the country. Along with the pacer, two support staff members - trainer Nathan Keily and fielding coach James Pamment - have also chosen not to go to Pakistan with the Bangladesh team.

The chairman of cricket operations of BCB, Najmul Abedeen Fahim, revealed the development while talking to the media on Wednesday. Fahim said that other players were hesitant too, but eventually agreed to tour Pakistan.

"From the team announced earlier, Nahid Rana has withdrawn himself; he is not going. From the coaching staff, Jimmy and Nathan, our fielding coach and trainer, aren’t going either. The rest of them are going," Fahim told reporters.

"There was slight discomfort among some other players. But then they thought that it wouldn’t be that much difficult. So they changed their initial decision, and all are going now," he added.

Fahim further pointed out that Nahid Rana's decision might have been influenced by recent incidents he faced in Pakistan during the PSL. Rana, along with his compatriot Rishad Hossain, was in Pakistan when the cross-border tension began.

"Nahid Rana or Rishad Hossain, they face such incidents that it’s quite natural to be traumatised. So there’s nothing to blame. And maybe that’s why he has withdrawn himself," said Fahim.

The three-match T20I series will begin on May 28. The second match will take place on May 30, while the third and final T20i will be played on June 1. All three games will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
