Jonjo Shelvey is on the lookout for a new club after he was let go by Burnley.
The Clarets announced their retained and released list on Tuesday, with Shelvey and Nathan Redmond the only two to have their departures confirmed.
Shelvey joined Burnley in January after his contract with Turkish Super Lig outfit Eyupspor expired.
The 32-year-old was initially on trial with Burnley before he penned the short-term deal with the Championship club.
However, he registered only 11 minutes of action for the Clarets in the second tier.
He was on the field for one minute in Burnley’s 1-0 victory over Oxford United on February 4.
His only other league appearance came via a ten-minute substitute appearance on February 21 as Burnley thrashed Sheffield Wednesday.
Shelvey managed two starts for Scott Parker’s side in the FA Cup, including a 1-0 win over Southampton in the fourth round.
But the 32-year-old unfortunately did not make another appearance following Burnley’s 3-0 loss to Preston North End in the fifth round due to injury.
Speaking after a win over Luton in March, Parker confirmed the reason behind Shelvey’s absence and was pessimistic about the midfielder’s chances of a return.
“He’s picked up an injury. He picked up an injury coming out of Preston,” Parker said.
“I don’t know the full, full extent yet.
Shelvey’s time with Burnley didn’t go to plan due to an unfortunate injuryGetty“We’re going to have to see, but it doesn’t look good.”
Shelvey’s departure means he is now on the lookout for what will be his sixth club in four seasons.
He departed Newcastle midway through the 2022/23 campaign to join Nottingham Forest.
Shelvey then joined Turkish Super Lig side Caykur Rizespor for the following season.
The 32-year-old then moved to Eyupspor in August 2024 but lasted six months until he made the switch to Burnley.
He has just shy of 280 Premier League appearances to his name after previous stints at Liverpool, Swansea City, Newcastle and Forest.
Shelvey spent over a decade competing in the Premier LeagueGettyRedmond exits Turf Moor having played only 20 minutes in all competitions this term.
The 31-year-old endured an injury-riddled campaign as he missed the majority of 2024 with a hamstring injury.
He then missed the start of 2025 with a calf issue.
Redmond managed to bag an assist in the penultimate game of the season as Burnley ran out 5-0 winners over Queens Park Rangers.
Amid confirmation of Redmond and Shelvey’s exits, Burnley confirmed Jaidon Anthony, Marcus Edwards, Bashir Humphreys and Zian Flemming would all join on a permanent basis.
The quartet helped fire the Clarets back to the Premier League having initially arrived at Turf Moor on loan deals.
Burnley also confirmed discussions are ongoing with skipper Josh Brownhill, Ashley Barnes and CJ Egan-Riley.
However, the Clarets face serious competition for Egan-Riley’s signature as he has been offered a five-year deal by Ligue 1 club Strasbourg.
The defender is thought to have been recommended to Strasbourg by sister-club Chelsea, with both clubs owned by the BlueCo group.
