Virat Kohlis complete exit from cricket announced as post-retirement plans revealed

Virat Kohli's decision to retire from Tests has left many disappointed. While the former India batsman is still one of the best batters in the world and is supremely fit, he has decided to bring down the curtains on his illustrious Test career.

While Virat Kohli will still be seen in action in the IPL and ODIs, former India head coach Ravi Shastri has said that the star batsman won't be associated with the game once he retires from all formats. While several former cricketers try their hands at coaching and broadcasting after retiring as a player, Virat Kohli is unlikely to do so, according to Shastri.

Not very long ago, during a Royal Challengers Bengaluru event, the right-handed batsman had himself said: "Once I'm gone. I'll be gone. You won't see me for some time."

And Shastri has now echoed the same sentiments. The former India allrounder said that Kohli won't be around the game once he retires, before saying that he would miss the batting great when India lock horns against England in the upcoming Test series.

"He is still around to serve Indian cricket in ODIs, but I also know that Virat will walk away from the game once he is done playing cricket. He is not the kind who would like to coach or take on the role of a broadcaster. I will miss him when India plays its first Test in England. He was a champion, and that is what I would like to remember – never conceding an inch," Shastri told Sportstar.

'Virat Kohli still had two years of Test cricket left in him'

Just like the majority, Ravi Shastri also believes that Virat Kohli's Test retirement is a big premature. The former cricketer-turned-commentator said that Virat Kohli could have carried on for another two years in the longest format of the game.

Not only that, Shastri also said that handing Kohli the captaincy for the upcoming tour of England would not have been a bad idea. Shastri said that mental fatigue might have played a big role in Kohli's sudden decision to walk away from the longest format of the game.

"I am sure Virat still had two years of Test cricket left in him. I would have loved to see him in England this summer. It would have been a good idea to hand him the captaincy for the tour, but he would know best why he decided to leave.

"Maybe mental fatigue drove him to decide because he was as fit as any other player in the team. He knew his body best, but the mind would have played the decisive role. I will not rule out burnout as the decisive factor in curtailing his career at a critical phase of Indian cricket," said Shastri.

Kohli is currently busy playing for RCB in the ongoing IPL 2025. The right-hander is enjoying another prolific campaign with the bat. After winning the Orange Cap last year, Kohli is in contention for the prestigious award this season as well. In 11 games so far, he has scored 505 runs with the help of 7 fifties.
