Manoj Tiwary declares Virat Kohli’s sudden Test retirement a Brain Fade Moment

Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has expressed surprise and disappointment over Virat Kohli’s sudden retirement from Test cricket. Tiwary urged Virat Kohli to take his Test retirement back, as he feels he still has plenty to offer in the longest format of the game.

Kohli announced his retirement from the longest format of the game on May 12, which shocked many, especially since he remains one of India’s finest players. It is being said that Kohli had informed the BCCI about his decision weeks earlier, but Tiwary said it is sad for Test cricket.

The former Indian batter has noted that Kohli has kept the traditional format of the game alive, even while T20 cricket was racing ahead. The former Indian skipper has consistently prioritized Test cricket and led with passion and commitment.

Virat Kohli has kept Test cricket alive: Manoj Tiwary

Manoj Tiwary said on Cricbuzz, “I felt a bit sad. In an era where T20 cricket is racing ahead, Kohli has kept Test cricket alive. He could have easily not given it the required importance. But he kept Test cricket as a priority always. We saw that in his captaincy, too. I’ll ask him to close his eyes and take the retirement back as soon as possible. It’ll bring back the happiness on the faces of all cricket fans.”

Meanwhile, Tiwary suggested that Kohli may have faced a “brain fade” and took that call. Kohli was nearing the monumental 10,000-run mark in Test cricket, and Tiwary believes that the right-handed batter should reach that milestone to inspire youngsters to do so.

The commentator said that the cricket world still needs Virat Kohli in Test cricket, and he hopes the former captain rethinks his retirement. The former batter added, “Sometimes you face a time when a brain fade can happen and you make a decision. It’s possible he had that too. There’s a lot of cricket left in him. He was too close to 10,000 runs.”

Tiwary signed off by saying, “Although it might not be important to him, a lot of young cricketers dream of making their name in Test cricket and reaching that milestone. He had a good chance. I don’t know what happened or what went wrong that he made this decision.”
