Yashasvi Jaiswal showed his beast mode in the very first over of Rajasthan Royals’ 220-run chase against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 clash at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday (May 18).
After Punjab Kings posted 219/5 on the board, Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings for Rajasthan Royals along with young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and gave a flying start to the hosts. The RR opener scored 22 runs off the first over against Arshdeep Singh on Sunday.

Arshdeep Singh bowled it short, and Yashasvi Jaiswal picked the length and smashed it over midwicket for a boundary to give a fiery start to RR. But he defended the next ball and then hit the PBKS pacer for another boundary. Arshdeep sent a full toss, but Jaiswal was ready.

The young Indian opener cleared his front leg and lifted the ball effortlessly over mid-off for a boundary through a perfect shot. On the fourth delivery that was a bit short, the left-handed batter moved across early for the scoop and went through with the shot.
The ball flew over the keeper, Prabhsimran Singh, for another boundary. Then Arshdeep Singh tried a full ball, and Jaiswal made the most of the angle, whipping it beautifully off his pads. The timing was spot on as the ball sailed over deep square leg for a big six, thrilling the RR fans.
And on the last ball of the first over, the PBKS pacer pitched up a ball just outside off, and Jaiswal punched across the line and got a thick edge. It flew past the short third man and raced away for four. Yashasvi Jaiswal finished the over with another boundary as Arshdeep conceded 22 runs from the first over.

Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders both scored 20 or more runs in the first over of an IPL innings 4 times each, followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru with 3. Delhi Capitals and the now-defunct Deccan Chargers have done it once each.
Harpreet Brar removes Yashasvi Jaiswal
Meanwhile, Jaiswal smashed a fiery fifty off 25 balls with the help of nine boundaries and one six before losing his wicket to Harpreet Brar. However, the Indian opener and Vaibhav Suryavanshi set a strong platform for the middle order to make their task easy against the PBKS.
Harpreet Brar fooled the RR opener with a floated ball outside off, tempting him to play a lofted shot. However, Yashasvi couldn’t clear the boundary, as Mitchell Owen ran across from long-off to take a sharp catch to end his explosive stay and help PBSK to fight back in the game.
