Texas softball shatters multiple records in NCAA Tournament win over Michigan

Texas softball was merciless against Michigan in Saturday’s NCAA Tournament game in Austin.

The Longhorns pummeled the Wolverines, 16-4, to stay undefeated in the Austin Regional and continue on their path to advancing. Those 16 runs were the most in an NCAA regional game in Texas softball history, and that was only half the record-breaking story for the Longhorns.

They also smacked 6 home runs in the win, which were the most in an NCAA Tournament game in the program’s history. The SEC Network’s social media account paid homage to what Texas did on Saturday, posting a tweet that said the Texas offense was hotter than even the Texas heat.

While Michigan, UCF and Eastern Illinois all have 1 loss in the Austin Regional, the host Longhorns are sailing along undefeated so far as they try to advance out of the regional.

Texas improved to 48-10 with the record-breaking victory. The 6th-ranked Longhorns have much greater aspirations this season than just pummeling teams in their own regional, but Saturday was a nice launching point to what they hope is another shot at a national title.

Last year provided heroics but also heartbreak, as Texas advanced all the way to the Women’s College Series finals before falling short against rival Oklahoma. On Saturday, Texas served notice that it could be headed back for another shot at the ultimate trophy in college softball.
