The veteran India National Cricket Team pacer Ishant Sharma has named the 'first choice' for the Test captaincy of the Indian team following the retirement of Rohit Sharma from red-ball cricket.
Ishant Sharma said that pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is a highly experienced campaigner, and he should be named the new India Test captain if he is fit and fine.

Reportedly, Jasprit Bumrah is not being considered for Test captaincy despite serving as Rohit Sharma's deputy in the last two Test series, as he has himself withdrawn from the race, citing his injury and workload concerns.
Several media outlets have reported that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has zeroed in on Shubman Gill as the new Test captain, and the official announcement regarding the same will be made very soon. Also, the star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is set to be named the new Test vice-captain.
Meanwhile, Ishant Sharma backed Bumrah as the new Test captain, but mentioned that Shubman Gill should get the responsibility if the pacer is not ready to play all the matches on the England tour.
"If Bumrah is fit, I would say Bumrah. That's first choice. He is the only one who has so much experience. But if he won't play all the five Tests matches, then obviously Shubman," Ishant said on Saturday in response to a PTI query on Star Sports Press Room.
I didn't really talk to him after he took retirement - Ishant Sharma makes shocking revelation
Virat Kohli recently announced his retirement from Test cricket and ended his legendary career after 14 long years with 9230 runs in his bag in the longest format of the game.
Ishant Sharma, who is one of the closest friends of Virat Kohli, reacted to his retirement and said that the batsman is quite mature and he knows what he is doing.
The veteran pacer also revealed that he has not had any chats with Kohli since he made his retirement decision public.
"I think he is mature. He knows what he is doing. I didn't really talk to him after he took retirement. But everyone knows as long as you are playing, it is important to be as normal as you can be. And that is why I have friendship with Virat. We have never tried to put anything on our head," Ishant said.
He knows what he wants in life and he must have talked to someone - Ishant Sharma
Speaking further on the same development, Ishant Sharma said that Kohli definitely would have had some conversations with his very close people before taking retirement, but expressed surprise over his move, saying that he should have played for 2-3 more years.
"At the end of the day, we are human beings. And we are good friends. He knows what he wants in life and he must have talked to someone. That's why he made such a big decision. Yes, I was surprised. Because he could have played for at least 2-3 years more. He could have played till 40."
"And right now, the kind of routine he follows and everything... I am not talking about numbers that he should have scored 10,000. That is a different thing. Talk about fitness first. If you are fit, you can score 10,000. You can take 500 wickets. You can play as long as you want. But his fitness is the answer even at 36."
