The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has delayed the announcement of the India cricket team’s squad for the upcoming England tour. Initially, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia had stated that they’ll name the team by May 20. But then it was delayed to May 23, and now we are hearing that it won’t be out until the last week of May.
India’s Test squad for England, out when?
According to Cricbuzz, BCCI has been forced to delay naming India’s squad for England due to the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. From May 8 onwards, all the talk has been regarding the tournament restarting. It’s resumed now, but a lot of focus went into deciding the venues and schedule.
And the IPL wasn’t all on BCCI’s plate. They were finalising the India ‘A’ squad as well, which was announced yesterday. One mustn’t forget the board has to replace Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who retired during the IPL halt, and announce India’s next Test captain. Neither of these are easy decisions to make.
Gautam Gambhir to leave with Team India
One thing is certain: Team India will leave on June 6 for England. That is barring Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, who’ll be there before, as they are in India A’s squad for the second practice match against the England Lions, which starts on June 6 in Northampton.
Gautam Gambhir will leave with the team as well. Earlier, it was reported that the Indian head coach will leave for England a few days before. But that won’t be the case. As for the India ‘A’ team, Hrishikesh Kanitkar is the head coach, Subhodeep Ghosh is the fielding coach, and Troy Cooley is travelling as the bowling coach.
