What time does the 2025 F1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix start? Hamilton starts 12th for first Ferrari home race

Formula 1 has returned to Italy for the start of a European triple-header as the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola takes place.

Lewis Hamilton will race in front of the Tifosi for the first time at Ferrari, but the Scuderia have failed to find form on home soil.

The Brit superstar finished eighth in Miami last time out, one spot below his Prancing Horse teammate Charles Leclerc.

The pair will now start the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in 11th and 12th respectively after a dismal qualifying session on Saturday.

Oscar Piastri will have the chance to take a fourth straight victory of the season to extend his championship lead after qualifying on pole.

Max Verstappen, who is 32 points adrift of the top, will complete the front row, with Lando Norris fourth behind George Russell.

Imola returned to the F1 schedule in 2020 after a 14-year absence, although it was cancelled in 2023 due to severe flooding.

Fortunately for drivers this weekend, the current weather forecast is largely dry and hot with temperatures around 27C.

A standard schedule has ensued in Italy following the Miami sprint, with three practice sessions held over the first two days.

Qualifying got underway at 3pm on Saturday, following a third and final practice at 11.30am earlier that morning.

Emilia Romagna GP: What has been said?

Hamilton’s first qualifying session in front of the Tifosi ended in major disappointment, with both Ferraris out in Q2.

He told Sky Sports: “It’s a tough one, ultimately I feel super gutted and devastated that we weren’t able to get through.

“I really feel like we’ve made so many positive steps through the weekend, the car was generally feeling better and the brakes were better, the balance was really nice.

“In Q2 in run one, it felt decent, but when we put the new tyres on for some reason, it just didn’t have any grip and couldn’t go any faster.

“It’s just devastating to see everyone working so hard in the garage to be in Italy for the first Italian with me and for me at Ferrari, and not making it to Q3 is definitely bittersweet.”
