The 2025 PGA Championship is up and running at Quail Hollow as golf’s best battle it out in the second major of the year.
Rory McIlroy completed the career Grand Slam by finally securing Masters glory at Augusta National in mid-April.

Now, the 36-year-old will have a great chance to add another major title to his stunning CV as he headlines the field for the PGA Championship.
McIlroy has won four times at Quail Hollow already and will relish teeing it up there again.
But he has made a sluggish start to the major, only just making the cut.
However, he will take confidence from his first PGA Tour win at Quail Hollow in 2010 when he made the cut on the number before overturning a nine-shot deficit to win.
Venezuela’s Jhonattan Vegas is the surprise leader after the opening two days but Matt Fitzpatrick, Scottie Scheffler, Max Homa and Robert MacIntyre are all right in contention ahead of Saturday’s third round.

PGA Championship 2025: The Course
The course at Quail Hollow Club, designed by George Cobb in 1959, measures 7,626 yards and is a par 71.
Bad weather has hit Charlotte this week, meaning the course will play long and soft with concerns over the amount of water it has taken.
Despite this, PGA of America officials have gone against calls to introduce ‘lift, clean and place’.
“We do not plan to play preferred lies,” read a message from the PGA of America. “The playing surfaces are outstanding and are drying by the hour. We are mowing the fairways this evening.“We are looking forward to an exciting opening round to the 107th PGA Championship.”
This will be the second time the venue has hosted the PGA Championship, having also done so in 2017 when Justin Thomas claimed glory.
It is mainly known for hosting the Wells Fargo Championship (renamed to the Truist Championship in 2025) each year, and it has done so since 2003.
It is famed for ‘The Green Mile’, which consists of holes 16, 17 and 18.
This is widely considered to be one of the most difficult stretches in golf after hole 16 was modified and moved to the edge of a lake.
At 17, there is a pond that makes landing the ball on the green extremely tricky while 18 is known to be one of the toughest endings in golf.
McIlroy will return to Quail Hollow as a Grand Slam championGettyPGA Championship 2025: What has been said?
Fitzpatrick ripped up the form book at Quail Hollow on Friday to move into contention for a second major title.
Former US Open champion Fitzpatrick, who carded five birdies and two bogeys in his 68, said: “The best thing for me is I am just happy to be in this position given the start of the year I’ve had.
“It’s not one of the goals to be where I am but I have 36 holes left and I’m in with a good chance.
“I obviously want to win another major, of course I do, but I’ve already won one, so I feel like there’s less pressure when you’ve already won one definitely.”
Halfway leader Vegas, who has recorded just one top-25 finish in 16 majors, had looked set to enjoy a more sizeable lead when he reached 10 under par before taking four to get down from a greenside bunker to make a double bogey on the last.
The resulting 70 left him two shots clear of France’s Matthieu Pavon.
“I feel like finishing so late yesterday, not getting a great sleep, and having to come back early kind of put me not in the best mood all day,” Vegas said.
“Even though it’s never easy to give two shots away right at the end, [there’s] a lot of golf left, so got to keep remembering the good stuff.”
