After being treated with medication and specialist acupuncture treatment, Roscoe made a full recovery but that hasn’t stopped Hamilton worrying about his dog’s long-term health.

“This is a time where every time I get a text message from the lady who looks after him, my heart stops for a second,” Hamilton said.

“Because I’m thinking, ‘What’s next?’ But he’s fine now, fortunately. He is doing well.

“He’s 12 and a half years old, so he’s an old boy and it’s unusual for them to live that long.”

One glance at Hamilton’s social media accounts is enough to show the strong bond he has with Roscoe.

The Ferrari driver is regularly seen in pictures alongside his pet and has on occasion, taken Roscoe with him to Grand Prix weekends around the world.

The pair have even graced the front cover of Vogue magazine.

Asked when Roscoe will make his next appearance in front of the masses, Hamilton said: “I really want to take him to Silverstone, and particularly Monza, this year.

“I plan to put him in a red cape and outfit. I was with him before Miami and he still wants to play.

“He’s still got that youthful spirit. But he does like to sleep a lot.”

Roscoe’s trainer Kirstin McMillan has been aiding the dog’s recovery while Hamilton has been preparing for his first race staged in Italy as a Ferrari driver this weekend.

Hamilton takes to the track for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix hoping to put a disappointing start to life at Ferrari behind him.

The 40-year-old is currently seventh in the F1 drivers’ standings and sits a whopping 90 points adrift of leader Oscar Piastri.

Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc also holds a 12-point lead on Hamilton.

Although the British driver admits to being excited for this weekend’s race he says he won’t be altering his preparations despite enjoying a period of relaxation during the two-week break since the Miami Grand Prix.

“It’s weird because these hospitality trucks have been here since 200,” he said.

The F1 legend has struggled since linking up with FerrariGetty

“I’ve walked past Ferrari and never went inside. If I’m really being honest, I was always too scared to go inside being from a different team.

“So today is another realisation and feeling. You know that Italians are extremely passionate about it.

“It’s a lot more than you expect when you’re actually in it. And it’s beautiful.”
