Ahead of this weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri was celebrated on Wednesday in Italy with the esteemed Trofeo Lorenzo Bandini, joining a distinguished roster of past recipients that includes Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, and Lando Norris.
Named after the charismatic Ferrari driver Lorenzo Bandini, who tragically died in 1967 from injuries sustained at the Monaco Grand Prix, the award was established in 1992 by Francesco Asirelli and Tiziano Samorè in Brisighella, Emilia-Romagna.
It recognizes drivers who demonstrate exceptional skill and commitment during the season.
The trophy, a striking ceramic replica of Bandini’s Ferrari 312 adorned with the number 18, serves as a poignant tribute to his legacy.
Piastri’s ascent in Formula 1 has been nothing short of remarkable. After securing his first F1 victory in the 2023 Qatar Sprint race, he claimed his maiden Grand Prix wins in Hungary and Azerbaijan last season.
This year, the 24-year-old Australian has elevated his craft, winning four of the first six races, establishing a 16-point lead over teammate Lando Norris in the championship standings.
