talkSPORT betting tips – Best racing bets and expert advice for York’s Dante Festival Day Two

The Dante Festival continues at York on Thursday with two Group races and a listed contest supported by three handicaps and a novice.

The card features The Lion In Winter, who is out to justify his position at the front of the ante-post Derby market.

Our expert, Jake Aldrich, has a trio of selections on the card including one in the feature race and two from the Handicaps.

    14:10 York – Vantheman @ 15/2 14:42 York – Romieu @ 6/1 15:45 – The Lion In Winter @ 5/6

    14:10 York – Vantheman @ 15/2

Kevin Ryan’s runners are always highly respected at York, and connections have a live chance in the opening 5f handicap with Vantheman.

The speedy son of Invincible Army has a good track record, finishing second and fourth in big-field handicaps from his previous runs over course and distance. The draw often plays a part in these contests, stall 15 poses some questions but he looks to have enough pace around him.

He remains just 2lb higher than his last win and there was plenty of encouragement from his seasonal debut when fading late over 6f. That form has been strongly boosted, with the winner, sixth and ninth-placed runners all triumphing next time.

    14:42 York – Romieu @ 6/1

Romieu doesn’t have an easy task on his handicap bow, but he looks one to keep on side having made an impressive winning debut for these connections at Redcar in April.

Formerly trained by Andre Fabre in France, he achieved a useful level of form in a couple of starts, winning on debut before finishing second in a conditions race.

Despite those runs coming on testing conditions and his sire Lope De Vega often preferring soft ground, he seemed well suited by the Good to Firm at Redcar.

He takes on some useful and experienced handicappers in this race, but he remains open to any amount of improvement after just three starts and could be well drawn in stall two for his front-running tactics, especially as this is a track where it can pay to be up with the pace.

A mark of 90 should be within reach for this well-bred gelding and this meeting has been the target since his winning return to action.

    15:45 – The Lion In Winter @ 5/6

Aidan O’Brian has been dominating the classic trials in Britain and Ireland over the last few weeks, with arguably his main Derby contender still to come in the form of The Lion In Winter.

The son of Sea The Stars heads the Ante-post markets for the Derby ahead of his seasonal debut in the Dante Stakes, having reached a high level of form in a couple of starts as a juvenile.

He made a winning debut in a strong Curragh maiden before taking the Group Three Acomb Stakes at this track, lowering the juvenile course record with subsequent 2000 guineas winner Ruling Court back in third.

He looks open to any amount of further improvement, especially over staying trips, and while he will likely improve for this run given his absence, he returns with his yard in red-hot form and should take some beating.
