The Windup: Previewing SEC baseball Week 14 slate (May 15-17)

We’ve made it to the final weekend of the 2025 college baseball regular season. In the SEC, there’s no shortage of storylines for Week 14.

After a hot start, Texas has dropped 5 of its last 6 SEC contests, but still holds a 2-game lead in the standings over Arkansas. LSU is 3 games behind Texas and 2 games behind Arkansas.

Behind those 3 teams, we have another trio of teams fighting to finish as a top-4 seed for the SEC Tournament in Hoover and receive a double-bye to the quarterfinals. Georgia, Auburn and Vanderbilt are all 16-11 in conference play, meaning they can’t catch Texas, but are in the mix for a top-4 seed.

Ahead of all the action, The Windup is here to provide a quick glance at where each squad stands entering this weekend’s conference series.

    Alabama at Florida

    Alabama at a glance:

Overall record: 39-13 SEC record: 15-12 Home record: 25-7 Road record: 10-6 Streak: W2 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Georgia RPI: 8

    Florida at a glance:

Overall record: 35-18 SEC record: 13-14 Home record: 24-9 Road record: 11-8 Streak: W1 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Texas RPI: 13

Off the bat watchability rating: Over the wall

On paper, Florida and Alabama are a lot alike. Both squads are strong at home and above .500 on the road. UF is one of the hottest teams in the conference, having won its last 5 series, including Week 13 over a top-ranked Texas team. Alabama comes in fresh off a series win over Georgia, the No. 1 RPI team in the nation. Even though both teams are out of the regular-season SEC title, the baseball played in Gainesville should deliver plenty of excitement.

    Tennessee at Arkansas

    Tennessee at a glance:

Overall record: 40-13 SEC record: 15-12 Home record: 29-9 Road record: 8-4 Streak: W1 Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Vanderbilt RPI: 15

    Arkansas at a glance:

Overall record: 41-11 SEC record: 18-9 Home record: 30-3 Road record: 8-7 Streak: W1 Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. LSU RPI: 5

Off the bat watchability rating: Tape-measure power

What will you show us, Tennessee, before the postseason begins? The Volunteers will make the NCAA Tournament, but they’ve gone from being a top-8 national seed to needing a series win against the Razorbacks to secure a hosting host for NCAA Regionals. Arkansas, meanwhile, is hoping for a sweep and for Texas to stumble again. The Razorbacks are on track to host in the NCAA Tournament, but want at least a piece of the SEC title.

    Auburn at Ole Miss

    Auburn at a glance:

Overall record: 36-15 SEC record: 16-11 Home record: 24-6 Road record: 6-9 Streak: W4 Last SEC series: W, 3-0 vs. South Carolina RPI: 2

    Ole Miss at a glance:

Overall record: 35-17 SEC record: 14-13 Home record: 23-7 Road record: 9-8 Streak: W1 Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Mississippi State RPI: 18

Off the bat watchability rating: Off the wall

Ole Miss is solidly in the NCAA Tournament, but would probably need a sweep to get back in the Regional host conversation. Auburn will be an NCAA Regional host, but still enters with plenty of motivation to close out the regular season strong and secure a top-4 seed for the SEC Tournament. It should be a fun series in Oxford as the Rebels will try to bounce back while the Tigers look to stay hot.

    Texas A&M at Georgia

    Texas A&M at a glance:

Overall record: 27-23 SEC record: 10-17 Home record: 21-13 Road record: 5-8 Streak: L3 Last SEC series: L, 0-3 vs. Mizzou RPI: 59

    Georgia at a glance:

Overall record: 40-13 SEC record: 16-11 Home record: 27-3 Road record: 10-10 Streak: L2 Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Alabama RPI: 1

Off the bat watchability rating: Tape-measure power

Back in the preseason, Texas A&M at Georgia figured to be an intriguing series, as both teams were highly ranked coming off strong showings in 2024. No one would have guessed that Texas A&M would be in sweep-or-bust mode entering the final weekend of the regular season. The Aggies are in a world of hurt after a stunning sweep at home to Mizzou, causing their RPI to plummet to No. 59 with a conference record of 10-17. The Bulldogs cannot catch Texas for the SEC crown, but they’re plenty motivated to secure a top-4 seed in Hoover.

    Kentucky at Vanderbilt

    Kentucky at a glance:

Overall record: 29-20 SEC record: 13-14 Home record: 19-10 Road record: 10-10 Streak: W4 Last SEC series: W, 3-0 vs. Oklahoma RPI: 33

    Vanderbilt at a glance:

Overall record: 36-16 SEC record: 16-11 Home record: 25-5 Road record: 10-9 Streak: W2 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Tennessee RPI: 3

Off the bat watchability rating: Off the wall

This should be an entertaining series in Nashville. Vanderbilt is solidly set to host an NCAA Regional, but is in the hunt for a top-4 seed in the SEC Tournament, which would give the Commodores a double-bye in Hoover. Kentucky has been up and down the past few weeks, but the Bat Cats head into the final series hot off a sweep of Oklahoma. UK is solidly an NCAA Tournament team, but the RPI and record look to be a bit outside the hosting picture.

    LSU at South Carolina

    LSU at a glance:

Overall record: 40-12 SEC record: 17-10 Home record: 30-5 Road record: 6-7 Streak: L1 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Arkansas RPI: 7

    South Carolina at a glance:

Overall record: 27-26 SEC record: 5-22 Home record: 22-10 Road record: 4-14 Streak: W1 Last SEC series: L, 0-3 vs. Auburn RPI: 71

Off the bat watchability rating: Over the wall

Of course, Paul Mainieri’s first season at South Carolina finishes with the Gamecocks facing his former team. It has been a miserable Year 1 in Columbia, as South Carolina can only reach the NCAA Tournament via a miraculous run in the SEC Tournament to win the auto bid. The Gamecocks have suffered back-to-back SEC sweeps to Florida and Auburn. The Tigers are also sweep-minded, as they’re 3 games back of Texas in the SEC standings.

    Mississippi State at Mizzou

    Mississippi State a glance:

Overall record: 31-20 SEC record: 12-15 Home record: 22-8 Road record: 6-9 Streak: W2 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Ole Miss RPI: 32

    Mizzou at a glance:

Overall record: 16-35 SEC record: 3-24 Home record: 8-17 Road record: 4-15 Streak: W3 Last SEC series: W, 3-0 vs. Texas A&M RPI: 135

Off the bat watchability rating: Off the wall

After 8 painful weekends, Mizzou finally won an SEC baseball game. And then the Tigers won another. And then they won a third for stunning sweep of Texas A&M. Could the Tigers play spoiler again? Mississippi State is expected to pick up SEC win No. 13 and make the NCAA Tournament, but college baseball fans everywhere are curious to see if MU can finish the 2025 regular season on a hot streak.

    Texas at Oklahoma

    Texas at a glance:

Overall record: 40-10 SEC record: 20-7 Home record: 26-5 Road record: 9-4 Streak: L1 Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Florida RPI: 4

    Oklahoma at a glance:

Overall record: 32-17 SEC record: 13-14 Home record: 19-8 Road record: 9-9 Streak: L4 Last SEC series: L, 0-3 vs. Kentucky RPI: 26

Off the bat watchability rating: Tape-measure power

Can Texas lock up the regular-season title in its first SEC season? The Longhorns have dropped their last 2 series to Arkansas and Florida, but enter the final weekend with a 2-game lead over the Razorbacks. Oklahoma has also been scuffling, but it’s a rivalry and the Sooners would love to play spoiler. All eyes are on Norman this weekend to see if the standings leader can close the deal.
