Australia retain top spot in ICC Womens ODI Rankings after annual update

Australia have continued their dominance in women’s one-day internationals after the latest annual update of the ICC Women’s ODI Team Rankings on Wednesday, May 14. The Women in Yellow have maintained a huge lead at the top of the table, with no team coming close to challenging their position.

The Australia team continues to hold a commanding position in the ODI Team Rankings, despite their lead over England being reduced by four points. This annual revision removes matches played between October 2021 and April 2022, including the ICC Women’s World Cup in New Zealand in 2022.

Australia are at the top of the ICC Women’s ODI Team Rankings with 167 points, but their lead has slightly narrowed from 44 to 40 points. England are in second place with 127 points, while India (121) have made notable gains, reducing their deficit to England from 11 to six points.

Australia secured two 3-0 wins over India, both at home and away. They also secured 3-0 victories against Bangladesh and England. The Aussies triumphed 2-0 over the West Indies and New Zealand in a three-match series and defeated South Africa 2-1 at home.

The Women in Blue won a tri-series in Sri Lanka that included South Africa and also secured dominant 3-0 series victories over Ireland, the West Indies, and South Africa, along with a 2-1 win against New Zealand at home.

South Africa, West Indies Experience Decline in Rankings After Update

South Africa and the West Indies, who reached the knockout stages of the 2022 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, have seen a decline in their rankings following the update, as their performances in that tournament are no longer factored in.

South Africa have lost nine rating points but remain in fifth place within the unchanged top six of the rankings. The West Indies have dropped 10 points, falling to ninth place behind Bangladesh and Pakistan.

A total of 15 teams are now ranked in ODIs. The United States has dropped off the table after losing their ODI status, with the UAE replacing them. The UAE will be officially ranked once they play eight ODIs.
