Things keep getting tough for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as they announce the resumption of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. As per the reports in local media, it is learned that New Zealand National Cricket Team player Kane Williamson is unlikely to return for the remainder of the league.
Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025, just like the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, was marred by a war-type situation between India and Pakistan. The two nations were involved in a brutal fight that saw drones, missiles, and firing being exchanged between the two.
One of the drones from India went on to hit the Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. And following that, PCB decided to shift the tournament to Karachi. But with things getting more intense, they decided to take the entire league to the UAE.
However, PCB faced a massive setback as the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) reportedly refused the proposal and openly denied the Pakistan Cricket Board from hosting PSL in UAE, with rising tensions between India and Pakistan. This made the governing body take the step to postpone the event.
A lot of foreign players have opted against returning for the PSL 2025
Now, with both nations calling it a ceasefire, PSL 2025 is all set to resume. The PCB released the official statement about the same and confirmed that the tournament will be played from 17th May, and the final has been slated to take place on 25th May.
However, the PCB is facing a massive headache as a lot of foreign players have opted against returning for the PSL 2025. A total of 37 overseas players are part of the tournament, and the majority of them have refused to come back due to security issues.
8 New Zealand players, including Kane Williamson unlikely to return for PSL despite assurances of security
As per the reports in Pakistani media, it is learned that eight New Zealand players involved in the PSL 2025, including former captain Kane Williamson, have expressed their dissatisfaction. Despite being assured of security arrangements, they aren't keen to return.
Kane Williamson is part of the Karachi Kings in the PSL 2025. The franchise is captained by David Warner in the league. The former Australia National Cricket Team skipper, however, has confirmed his availability for the remainder of the tournament.
The remaining four games of the PSL 2025 will be taking place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, with the playoffs and final in Lahore. Quetta Gladiators are at the top of the points table in the league with 6 wins, while Karachi Kings are second with 5 victories in the 8 games.
It remains to be seen how things pan out in the tournament. So far, these two teams look hot favorites to qualify for the final.
