Some combat sports fans think Mike Richman should call it a day after his BKFC defeat this past weekend.
Former MMA fighter Richman was stopped by Josh Dyer in the fourth round of his fight at BKFC 74 on Saturday, losing his light heavyweight title in the process.
But it wasn’t just the fight and a belt that Richman lost, as gruesome images revealed after the bout that the majority of his face had completely split open.
The fight was so brutal for Richman that he issued a statement afterwards, revealing his intentions to move down a weight division to avoid ‘monsters’ at light heavyweight.
“That’s why they call this thing Bloodsport kid!” he wrote on Instagram.
“Ray Jackson I love you all that still ride and love and rock with me. I’m not done yet.
“However, I have officially decided I’m done fighting these big Monster f***s at 185 lbs.
“Especially with my good friend and Beast at the Top of the mountain,
“You can see me again at 175 with the goal to be down at 165 lbs. I love you all with the good feedback and the bad! This is what we do it for good and bad.”
Richman, 39, competed in 26 professional MMA fights across various promotions during his nine-year career with gloves on.
Since he has gone bare-fisted, ‘The Marine’ has gone 6-3 at BKFC, but the majority of these fights have been well above his usual weight class of lightweight as an MMA fighter.
Combat sports fans were quick with their responses to Richman’s sliced up face after his most recent defeat.

A third said: “Oh my god bro. Please tell me he made enough money,” while a fourth responded: “I know they’re not getting paid enough.”
One bare-knuckle fan simply stated: “That’s retirement mandatory.”

Other athletes have also got involved, including NFL star Maxx Crosby, who plays for the Las Vegas Raiders.
McGregor hasn’t appeared in a fight himself since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.
However, the 36-year-old Irishman has kept himself occupied by attending BKFC events in the UK and around the world, including in Newcastle for BKFC 68 at the Utilita Arena last November.
