Virat Kohli's childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, has dropped a massive statement about his future in international cricket. He said that he is sure that the India National Cricket Team batter will be there to win the ICC World Cup 2027.
India National Cricket Team batter Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on Monday (12th May). The right-hander made the decision public in an emotional Instagram post, which left many shocked, as not many expected him to retire from the format.
Kohli, who always called Test cricket his priority, retired at 36, and it's fair to say that with the kind of fitness level that he had, he surely had another three years in him. Despite the attempts of the BCCI to stop him, he stood firm on his stance and took the decision.
Kohli's decision came just ahead of the Test series against the England National Cricket Team and five days after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement. With the kind of impact that he made, his absence surely will leave a massive void in the team.

As Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket, his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma said that he salutes the batter for his contributions to Indian Cricket. He said that he couldn't be prouder of the way Kohli set an example for youngsters. Speaking to ANI, he said:
"I salute him for his tremendous contribution to Indian Cricket, and as a coach, I am proud of him for what he has done for the country and the example he has set for the youngsters."

Rajkumar Sharma admitted that Virat Kohli's Test retirement hurt him emotionally as he won't see the batter in whites again. However, he was quick to say that the batter will be there till the ICC World Cup 2027. He added:
"Emotionally, it hurts that we won't be seeing him in whites again for the country. I appreciate and back his decision...Hopefully, he will be there to win the 2027 ODI World Cup for India and he will be 100 per cent committed to it.”
Kohli retired from Tests with 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85 in 123 games. He also hit 30 Test tons and 31 fifties. The batter will now be playing for India only in ODIs and would want to help the team achieve success in the format.
Kohli has been a champion batter in the ODIs. He played a massive role in the success of the team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where he was the second leading run-getter for India.
