THE Pittsburgh Steelers will welcome an offensive player into the fold as they look to reach a deal with free agent NFL star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Head coach Mike Tomlin and the Steelers have signed a veteran player to their roster.
On Monday, the Steelers announced the signings of multiple players.
Among the signed players is running back Trey Sermon, who participated in the team’s rookie minicamp on a tryout last week.
Sermon will be part of a running backs room that includes Jaylen Warren, Kenneth Gainwell, and Kaleb Johnson.
The 26-year-old Sermon brings with him some NFL experience.
He joined the league as a third-round pick with the San Francisco 49ers in 2021.
Sermon played one season in San Francisco, one with the Philadelphia Eagles, and the last two campaigns with the Indianapolis Colts.
During the last two seasons, he appeared in 31 games, with three starts, and posted 91 carries for 319 yards and two touchdowns.
Sermon posted a career-high 245 offensive snaps in 2024.
The Steelers’ addition of Sermon comes as they are heavily linked with the four-time NFL MVP Rodgers.
It’s widely expected that he will sign with the Steelers after meeting with the team in March.
Rodgers had a training session with new addition star wide receiver DK Metcalf.
And Rodgers shared that money isn’t holding his decision back as he appeared on The Pat McAfee Show last month and admitted that he’s willing to sign a one-year deal worth just $10 million.
However, during that same appearance. Rodgers revealed that he’s been dealing with things personally, which has caused him to think about retirement.
“I’ll set it all straight. From the jump, I’m in a different phase of my life, I’m 41 years old, I’m in a serious relationship, I have personal commitments I’ve made… and people in my inner circle battling difficult stuff,” he said.
“To make a commitment to a team is a big thing.”

Pittsburgh has three less-than-stellar quarterback options on the roster: Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and 2025 sixth-round pick Will Howard.
Steelers general manager Omar Khan revealed last month that four quarterbacks will be on the roster in training camp, potentially leaving Rodgers as the last puzzle piece.
Pittsburgh is coming off a 10-7 season, which saw them get bounced in the first round of the NFL playoffs.
