PGA Championship Facts and Stats

With the PGA Championship’s rich history, we’ve taken a look at all the key facts and statistics to help get you ready for the 107th edition at Quail Hollow Country Club.

There was a new member in golf’s Grand Slam club last month – is there room for another one this weekend?

Jordan Spieth trying to follow Rory McIlroy on the exclusive list is one of many terrific storylines at the PGA Championship. The second of golf’s four major tournaments is set for Thursday through Sunday at Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club in Charlotte.

A 156-player field will be tested by the par-71, 7,623-yard course. Xander Schauffele is the defending champion.

Following are plenty of 2025 PGA Championship facts and statistics to know heading toward the action:

Quail Hollow is hosting the PGA Championship for the second time. In 2017, Justin Thomas won his first of two major titles. Rory McIlroy’s win at the Masters last month saw him become the first European golfer to achieve the career Grand Slam and only the sixth overall after Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Rory McIlroy will aim to become the third golfer since the turn of the century to win the first two majors in a calendar year after Tiger Woods (2002) and Jordan Spieth (2015). Rory McIlroy has five major victories – two at the PGA Championship and one each at the Masters, U.S. Open and (British) Open Championship. Among active golfers, only Tiger Woods (15) and Phil Mickelson (six) boast more major titles.

3 months ago Opta Analyst Rory McIlroy has won more PGA Tour titles at Quail Hollow (four) than any other course. It includes the first of his 29 PGA Tour wins at the 2010 Quail Hollow Championship. Rory McIlroy has three PGA Tour wins in 2025, more than any other player. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February and Players Championship in March preceded his Masters triumph. In addition to McIlroy, Sepp Straka is the year’s only other multiple PGA Tour winner, adding the Truist Championship this past weekend to the American Express in January. The Austrian is the biggest riser in 2025 among the current world’s top 10, having climbed 27 places to ninth, his all-time high. There’s only been one playoff in the last 13 editions of the PGA Championship, when Justin Thomas edged out Will Zalatoris at Southern Hills Country Club in 2022. With his wins at the 2024 PGA Championship and Open Championship, Xander Schauffele became the first golfer to capture multiple majors in the same year since Brooks Koepka in 2018. Xander Schauffele will try to become only the third player to win back-to-back PGA Championships in the stroke play era (since 1958), joining Tiger Woods and Brooks Koepka. Since the 2022 PGA Championship, Xander Schauffele has not finished outside the top 20 in 12 major tournaments. This includes a top-10 finish in seven of the last nine majors. Xander Schauffele has finished second in each of his last two Wells Fargo Championships played at Quail Hollow behind Wyndham Clark in 2023 and Rory McIlroy last year. A U.S. or European golfer has won 34 of the last 36 majors. The exceptions are Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama at the 2021 Masters and Australia’s Cameron Smith at the 2022 Open Championship. Scottie Scheffler has had 13 top-10 finishes in his last 19 major tournament appearances (68.4%), which is more top-10s than any other golfer since 2020. It includes four top-10s in the last five PGA Championships. In his last PGA Tour appearance earlier this month, Scottie Scheffler matched the PGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record, finishing at 253 in an eight-shot victory in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. Bryson DeChambeau’s last four major appearances at U.S. courses have seen him finish tied for sixth, second, first and tied for fifth. He’s also had three top-five finishes in his last four PGA Championship appearances. In his last two majors, Justin Rose has finished second at the 2024 Open Championship and second at this year’s Masters. He also is tied for the most top-10s (four) at the PGA Championship since 2020 with Scottie Scheffler. Collin Morikawa has finished in the top 20 at each of the last five major tournaments, with only Xander Schauffele on a better run (12). Morikawa’s first major title was the 2020 PGA Championship. Viktor Hovland is the only player to have finished in the top three of the last two PGA Championships, tying for second in 2023 before having a third-place finish last year. The PGA is also the only major tournament in which the Norwegian has always made the cut (five out of five). With a win at the PGA Championship, Jordan Spieth would become only the seventh golfer in history to achieve a career Grand Slam. But he last finished inside the top 25 at the PGA in 2019 when he tied for third. The PGA Championship is the major in which Justin Thomas has two wins, his most top-10s and the highest proportion of cuts made (89%, eight of nine). However, since winning the 2022 PGA Championship, Thomas has had only one top-35 finish at a major (eighth-place tie at the 2024 PGA Championship). Brooks Koepka’s three titles at the PGA Championship are only topped by Walter Hagen (five), Jack Nicklaus (five) and Tiger Woods (four). Koepka is 12 of 12 with making the PGA cut, which is perfection he doesn’t have at the other majors. Brooks Koepka’s current run of seven consecutive majors without a top-10 finish is his longest career drought. His best finish since his victory at the 2023 PGA Championship is a tie for 17th at the 2023 U.S. Open. Phil Mickelson holds the record for oldest player to win a major: He was 50 years, 11 months old when he lifted the Wannamaker trophy at the 2021 PGA Championship. This will be his 127th major tournament, which will tie him with Raymond Floyd for fifth all time behind Jack Nicklaus (164), Gary Player (150), Tom Watson (145) and Arnold Palmer (127). This year’s PGA Championship will mark Adam Scott’s 95th consecutive major championship appearance since the 2001 Open Championship. Max Homa joins Rory McIlroy as the only other multiple winner at Quail Hollow in a PGA Tour event this century. He won the Wells Fargo in 2019 and ’22. Joaquin Niemann is the only multiple winner in the LIV Golf League this year, taking the Adelaide, Singapore and Mexico City events. However, in his 23 major appearances, the Chilean golfer has never had a top-10 (his best finish was a tie for 16th at the 2023 Masters).  Wyndham Clark has had only one top-30 finish in 13 majors – his victory at the 2023 U.S. Open. Since winning the Masters in 2020, Dustin Johnson has more than twice as many missed cuts (seven) as top-10s (three) in the majors.
