Texas A&M transfer WR reportedly headed to Sacramento State

Texas A&M lost former 4-star recruit Ernest Campbell to the transfer portal this offseason. Now, he’s reportedly heading west to play for a prominent FCS program.

According to Matt Zenitz with 247 Sports/CBS Sports, Campbell is headed to play for Sacramento State, a program with 4 trips to the FCS playoffs since 2019. Campbell was originally a 4-star in-state recruit for Texas A&M in the 2024 recruiting class out of Refugio High School.

Campbell appeared in just one game on special teams during his true freshman season, saving his 4 years of eligibility at his new destination. A dual-sport athlete with an impressive track background, Campbell also appeared in 4 indoor track meets during his time with the Aggies.

Campbell’s departure is a hit to the depth for head coach Mike Elko, but the Aggies have done solid work in the transfer portal class. Texas A&M added 4 wide receiver transfers in a transfer portal group that ranks 11th in the country.

At his next stop, Campbell will team up with quarterback Jaden Rashada, who has since left Georgia for Sacramento State. Those two players are part of a deep recruiting class for the FCS program looking to make a splash in the 2025 college football season.
