2025 CBGB Festival to Feature Iggy Pop, Jack White, Sex Pistols, Johnny Marr, Marky Ramone & More

It’s been nearly two decades since the shuttering of beloved New York punk bar CBGB & OMFUG. But this fall the club known for its grotty bathrooms and for being the birthplace of the punk movement in the U.S. is celebrating its legacy with an all-day festival.

Organizers announced the date and lineup for the CBGB Festival on Monday (May 12), a collaboration with promoter The Bowery Presents that will take place on Sept. 27 at Under the K Bridge Park in Brooklyn. The one-day event will feature 21 bands on three stages including a headlining set from OG punk Iggy Pop in his first New York show in more than a decade.

Joining him in the headliner spot is Jack White on a lineup featuring a host of old-school, first generation punks as well as some of their modern-day progeny, including the Sex Pistols (with singer Frank Carter), Smiths guitarist and solo star Johnny Marr, Lunachicks, former Ramones drummer Marky Ramone, the Damned and Melvins.

Some of the classic CBGB hardcore regulars will also be on hand, including Gorilla Biscuits, Murphy’s Law and the Cro-Mags, as well as some noisy newbies such as the Linda Lindas, Lambrini Girls, Destroy Boys, Angel Du$t, Scowl, Pinkshift, Teen Mortgage, YHWN Nailgun, Soul Glo and Lip Critic.

There will also be a limited number of special “young punk” discounted GA ticket available to New York residents under 25 — in person only — at a box office pop-up at Music Hall of Williamsburg on Saturday (May 17) at 12 p.m. ET. The tickets, priced at $73 in honor of the year the club opened, will be limited to just 350, an homage to the original CBGB capacity.

Fans can register now for presale access to tickets here; presale tickets will go live on Thursday (May 15) at 10 a.m. ET, followed by a public onsale beginning on Friday (May 16) at 10 a.m. ET. In addition to a full day of music, organizers are promising vintage and new merch, local food and drink and immersive CBGB installations, including the original club’s bar and stage.

The former East Village rock club, whose name stood for “Country, Bluegrass, Blues and Other Music For Uplifting Gourmandizers” opened its doors in December 1973 and quickly became a mecca for the city’s then-evolving punk scene, playing host to some of the most iconic bands of the era, including the Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, Television, Patti Smith Group, Dead Boys, Richard Hell and many more. After that first generation moved on to bigger venues, the 1980s brought a new wave of hardcore regulars such as Agnostic Front, Murphy’s Law, Cro-Mags and Gorilla Biscuits.

Over the years countless bands who went on to rock arenas and stadiums trod the club’s cramped stage, including the Beastie Boys, Green Day and Guns N’ Roses, among many others. CBGB closed up shop for good on Oct. 15, 2006, after an epic show by alumna Patti Smith. The storefront then became a John Varvatos store, with the storied awning packed up and sent to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where it sits in the building’s lobby.
