India Women clinch confidence-boosting tri-series ahead of Women’s World Cup

India Women’s Cricket Team will return home with a confidence-boosting win in the ODI Tri-series, also featuring Sri Lanka and South Africa. In the final in Colombo, India beat Sri Lanka by 97 runs to clinch the trophy. With the Women’s World Cup in October, the win will help Harmanpreet Kaur & Co. India will play a T20I series and an ODI series against England next month.

In the tri-series final, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana headlined India’s batting with her 11th ODI century. Opting to bat, India Women posted a massive 342/7 in 50 overs, India’s highest ODI total against Sri Lanka. The hosts, in response, folded for 245. Chamari Athapaththu top-scored for Sri Lanka with 51 while Sneh Rana picked up four wickets for India.

    Mandhana stars in batting show

After a rather underwhelming performance in WPL 2025, all eyes were on Smriti Mandhana. In the preceding four matches, Mandhana hit 43, 36 and 51, all but failing to capitalise on the start. But she was in her elegant mode in the final, scoring 116 off 101 deliveries. Her knock included 15 fours and two sixes as she struck at a 114.85 strike rate.

After a slow start in the powerplay, scoring 45/0, she took charge. Partnering Harleen Deol (47 off 56), she added a 120-run stand for the 2nd wicket after opener Pratika Rawal fell for 30. That massive stand paved the way for Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues to play their shots. Before that, Mandhana departed in the 33rd over with India in a commanding position with 190/2.

    Rodrigues-Harmanpreet fire

While Mandhana fell, captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues took charge. Hamranpreet played a blazing knock of 30-ball 41, including four fours and a six. Jemimah blasted 29 balls 44 with four fours. Harmanpeet and Jemimah added a 48-run stand off 32 balls.

With Deepti Sharma also contributing 20 off 14 and Amanjot Kaur scoring 18 off 12 after Richa Ghosh fell for 8, India marched towards a big total.

    Amanjot-Rana star in bowling

With the cushion of 342 runs on the board, Indian bowlers were at their best. With Renuka Thakur injured and out of the series, Amanjot Kaur did a fantastic job with the ball. After a 3/59 in the last match against South Africa, she picked up three wickets again in the Tri-Series final for 54 runs.

However, it was Sneh Rana who was the star with the ball in the tri-series final. She bagged four wickets for just 38 runs in the final. In five matches on her comeback series, Rana picked up 15 wickets.
