South Africa National Cricket Team pacer Kagiso Rabada has been in the news for the last few days. This is because of the code of conduct that he violated and tested positive for the consumption of a banned drug.
Kagiso Rabada, who was playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for the Gujarat Titans, went back home after a few games. Earlier, it was reported that the South Africa National Cricket Team fast bowler had gone back home due to personal reasons, but the pacer himself gave a statement.
Rabada tested positive for recreational drug use, and it was revealed that he went back home to serve his one-month suspension. The premier fast bowler missed the majority of the games in the IPL 2025 but was recently made free to play the game.
Rabada consumed the drug during the SA20 and failed a doping test on January 21, after the match between MI Cape Town and Durban Super Giants. His sanction is in line with the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) punishment for the use of a recreational drug, including cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, or diamorphine.
However, as per the reports in Rapport, the drug Rabada tested positive for was cocaine and not marijuana. The fast bowler also faced a lot of flak for his actions, but he made sure that he apologised to his fans for violating the code of conduct.

Why was Kagiso Rabada banned for one month for Drug use?
Kagiso Rabada had to serve the one-month ban due to the sanctions of the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS). He was banned under Article 10.2.4.1 of the SAIDS Code, which states:
“If the Athlete can establish that any ingestion or use occurred out-of-competition and was unrelated to sports performance, then the period of ineligibility shall be three (3) months.
"In addition, the period of ineligibility calculated may be reduced to one (1) month if the athlete or other person satisfactorily completes a Substance Abuse treatment program approved by SAIDS.”
Kagiso Rabada to play an important role for Gujarat Titans and South Africa
The IPL 2025, which was suspended due to the tensions between India and Pakistan, is all set to resume next week. Gujarat Titans, who are one of the top teams in the tournament, are looking like favourites to qualify for the playoffs.
Kagiso Rabada is expected to play a massive role for the team in the IPL 2025. So far, he has played two games for the Gujarat Titans. The pacer has picked wickets at an average of 41.50 and a strike rate of 24 to go with an economy of 10.38.
After the IPL, he will be seen in action for the South Africa National Cricket Team in the final of the ICC World Test Championship against the Australia National Cricket Team. He will be holding the key for his team as they look to bag their first WTC title.
