LSU walks off run-rule win over Arkansas in wild fashion

It’s not often baseball fans see a walk-off strikeout to end a game, but that’s exactly what fans witnessed when LSU capped its emphatic run-rule victory over Arkansas.

The game was jump-started by the Tigers with an immediate scoring blast in the bottom of the 1st inning. Jake Brown delivered a 3-run home run, and LSU would tack on solo shots in the 2nd and 3rd innings to give the Tigers an early 5-0 cushion.

By the time LSU capped a 6-run 5th inning, punctuated by a 3-run shot from Ethan Frey, it was clear the Tigers were going to finish off a big win. How big was the only question, though Arkansas finally pushed 3 runs across in the 7th inning, and it looked like the game might go the distance at that point.

However, LSU would scrape a run across to walk things off in the bottom of the 7th, despite the fact that the Tigers made 3 outs before the walk-off run occurred. How is that possible?

It’s because Steven Milam struck out, but the pitch from Hunter Dietz got away from the catcher. Milam was able to reach first base safely, and Daniel Dickinson was able to elicit a wild throw from the catcher in a potential rundown that allowed Dickinson to race home for the final run of the 13-3 win.

Here’s how the wild ending went down:
