Greg Grunberg has been diagnosed with alopecia.
The actor, best known for his roles in Alias and Heroes, shared a health update in a candid YouTube video on May 7.
"First of all, I want to thank everybody who's like asking, you know, if I'm okay," he began. He then took off his hat to show that he's completely bald. "This is what's happening. So, you can call me 'Al.' I — all of a sudden — got alopecia. And I knew nothing about it. I'm still learning about it."
"I had knee surgery in October, which was awesome. Full knee replacement surgery, but I think it shocked the alopecia into, you know, actually presenting itself," Grunberg, 58, continued. "I think I probably had it dormant in my body for a long time."
Fans reacted to Grunberg's video, many letting him know that he's not alone.
"Matt Lucas has had it since teenage years and he's adorable. As are you!! Thank you, dear man. As long as you can win at 25 Words or Less, you're the man," one person commented on the video.
"I’ve always loved your acting and now I love your candor and authenticity. A couple of my BFFs have autoimmune diseases…we all have something and it’s humbling and all you can do is choose to go through it in the best possible way. You’re role modeling compassion and love! Sending you prayers and joy," someone else said.
"Hi Greg , when I saw your post , my first thought was you needed to shave your head for a movie or tv character role. Thank you for talking about what you're going through , I'm sincerely grateful you are OK. Be well, stay strong," a third comment read.
Grunberg is still very much working in the industry and has a few upcoming projects listed on his IMDb page.
