PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. punctuated a roller-coaster first five innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chase Field on Friday with a grand slam that tied the game, 8-8.
The Diamondbacks lead Major League Baseball with six grand slams this season. Their latest aided a five-run comeback, as the D-backs trailed 8-3 after the third inning but kept pushing the envelope.

Down 8-4 in the fifth, Ketel Marte led off the frame with a walk, which ended Dodgers starter Roki Sasaki’s night. Enter Anthony Banda, a former Diamondbacks top prospect.
The D-backs elected to keep Pavin Smith in the game against a lefty, and he punched his first hit of May up the middle. Eugenio Suarez walked to load the bases, but Gabriel Moreno struck out for the second out.
Gurriel, who has started to turn around his offensive fortunes in the last two weeks, turned on a sinker down-and-in for a no-doubter.
Gurriel threw his hands in the air, letting the bat fly behind him as he started his trot.

Moreno hit a grand slam in Thursday’s 5-3 win, so the Diamondbacks have hit two grand slams in as many games for the second time in franchise history.
The first was back in 2011, at the very end of the season, when Ryan Roberts and Cole Gillespie did so against the Dodgers, per the team.
The D-backs tacked on a run in the sixth to enter the final three frames ahead 9-8.
