A major storyline has been developing regarding the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to suspend the tournament indefinitely. This came after the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan and a “war-like” evolving situation across the borders. On Thursday, the clash between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was abandoned after just 10.1 overs.

IPL 2025 to continue but when?

At IPL 2025, there are still 17 matches to be played, including the PBKS vs DC game and the four playoffs. None of the ten franchises have been able to get that ‘Q’ in front of them as of yet. With stakeholders, broadcasters, players and fans involved, don’t expect the BCCI to cancel the entire IPL 2025. Instead, the tournament is very likely to continue right from where it left.

But what could be the best period to host the IPL again? Not in the near future for sure. The current critical situation between India and Pakistan might not be safe to conduct a high-octane tournament as of now. In about a month’s time, there’s a massive Test series against England lining up for India. Alongside the warm-up games and an intra-squad match, India are set to fight for the Anthony de Mello Trophy, which will end on August 04.

BCCI to chuck Asian calendar for IPL 2025

Interestingly, there are now reports coming in that the BCCI might look to organise the remainder of the IPL post the IND vs ENG series. Originally, India was scheduled to travel to Bangladesh for three ODIs and as many T20Is from August 17 to 31. Following that, there was a space left (entire September) for the Asia Cup 2025 to take place, with India being the official hosts. However, according to the TOI, the BCCI is looking to chuck the Bangladesh tour and also the Asia Cup in order to complete the IPL 2025. So that means fans can enjoy the IPL 2025 once again from the second half of August (approx).

Also, there are massive reports that the entire Asia Cup 2025 is off the table due to the tensions between the two neighbouring countries. And we all know that the basic crux of having the Asia Cups was to have India vs Pakistan matches. As of now, the BCCI appears to be in no mood to play the Asian tournament.

The BCCI is prioritising the safety and well-being of players and support staff following the recent incident during the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala. Players from both teams were reportedly in shock and left the venue early Friday morning. The situation has also impacted other matches, including the Lucknow Super Giants vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru game in Lucknow, which has been called off. The BCCI is working to ensure all individuals involved in the IPL are safe and not in a state of panic.
