Greg McElroy explains why ‘big-time’ RB Jaydn Ott could boost Oklahoma offense

Greg McElroy discussed Oklahoma running back Jaydn Ott on his “Always College Football” podcast, as the former Cal RB transferred to spend his final year of eligibility in Norman.

Injuries hampered Ott significantly in 2024: after 1,242 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns in his true freshman season, he posted nearly 1,500 APY and 14 touchdowns in 2023. But in 2024, an ankle injury saw him held to just 607 yards and 5 TDs.

A fresh start at Oklahoma could be just what Ott — and the Sooners — need.

“If you look at what Jaden Ott was in 2023 and prior to 2023, the guy was one of the top backs in the country. I mean, preseason All-American candidacy, Pac-12 Player of the Year conversation, like he’s that kind of guy,” McElroy said. “(He was) in the ACC last year and it just never really materialized, but he is still big time.”

Oklahoma averaged the sixth-lowest rushing total in the SEC in 2024. That should change in a big way with Ott in the fold.

“If you look to see what this could mean for the Sooners offense, I think he’s in a really good spot. Part of this is staying healthy,” McElroy said.
