Jadeveon Clowney, the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, has been released by the Carolina Panthers. The former South Carolina pass rusher is set to enter his 12th year in the NFL assuming he’ll be signed again before September.
The #Panthers have released pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney, after signing Patrick Jones II in free agency and drafting edges Nic Scourton and Princely Umanmielen.
Clowney has been all over the place in the NFL following his first 5 years in Houston with the Texans. He was absolutely at his best during those 5 years, making it to the pro bowl 3 times from 2016-2018. Things have started to trend downwards for Clowney since then.
Clowney has suited up for 5 separate teams across the past 6 years: Tennessee, Seattle, Cleveland, Baltimore and Carolina. Two of those seasons were spent in Cleveland, but he failed to stay with any other team for more than one season.
Since being drafted No. 1 overall Clowney has totaled 409 tackles with 108 tackles for loss, 58 sacks and 15 forced fumbles. He totaled 9.5 sacks in 2023 with the Ravens, helping Baltimore to a 13-4 record.
While his best years are likely behind him, Clowney is almost sure to be picked up before the start of the 2025-26 season. He’ll serve a team well as a veteran presence with some pass rushing ability still in the tank.
Carolina Panthers release Jadeveon Clowney, former South Carolina pass rusher Saturday Down South.
