Why Luke Humphries has changed shirt for Premier League Darts tonight as Cool Hand pays tribute

Luke Humphries won’t be wearing his usual shirt this evening as the Premier League Darts heads to Leeds.

Humphries has become renowned for wearing a blue top every time he takes to the oche, but that won’t be the case this evening.

The 2024 world champion and current number one will be looking to close the gap to Luke Littler at the top of the table.

The Nuke won his fifth night of the season last time out in Birmingham, but Humphries is hoping his choice of top will get the Leeds crowd going.

Why has Humphries changed his shirt?

Well, to celebrate Leeds United being promoted to the Premier League as champions, Cool Hand is paying tribute to the club he loves with a special kit.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Humphries said: “It’s yellow and Leeds inspired. I always like to do a special version, I did one last year that was a retro one.

“It just feels yellow for Leeds this year, that’s why I went for this one and I’m quite happy with it.”

Humphries is donning a special Leeds shirt for the Premier League

In 2024, Humphries gave away his signed match worn shirt with everyone who made a donation to Leeds Hospitals Charity entered into a draw.

Night 14 of the Premier League comes from the First Direct Arena in Leeds and Humphries is sure to have the crowd behind him.

There may be one or two fans still celebrating them winning the Championship with 100 points.

Humphries believes there will be a slightly more relaxed atmosphere at the First Direct Arena.

Rewind 12 months and Leeds were in the middle of a Championship play-off battle, which they heartbreakingly lost in the final.

“The atmosphere was amazing, but there was a bit of anxiety from the fans, maybe because we were in the playoffs,” Humphries said.

“Whereas this year we won the league, there’s been such a great party atmosphere over the last six to seven days. You’ve seen on Monday the incredible scenes with the parade.

“So I do feel like the whole city of Leeds is in a buzz at the moment. I’m hoping they’re going to bring that on Thursday night and, you know, give me loads of support and I can sort of flourish on it and play well.”

First up for Humphries will be Michael van Gerwen in the quarter-finals.

“It’s not an easy game for myself,” he added. “I’ve got a great winning record against him, but he’s under a lot of pressure because he’s fighting out for that fourth spot at the moment.

“I’m looking pretty decent for the O2 (finals) already. The only pressure on my shoulders will be the fact that obviously I want to do well in Leeds.

“But winning that first game is pivotal for me because I just want to give the fans something to cheer about.”
