Kristen Doute's Fiancé Luke Broderick Talks Valley Co-Stars He Wants to "Cut Out" (7:27)

Luke Broderick is still adjusting to the reality TV of it all. The Valley star is back for his second season on the hit Bravo series, this time finding himself returning with some genuine friendships, as well as exciting forward momentum in his relationship with Kristen Doute. We caught up with Broderick last week, breaking down what sets Season 2 apart, which of his co-stars he's ready to "cut out" and what special moments fan have to look forward to as the season continues to air.

"The biggest difference for me is that I have real relationships established with pretty much everyone in the group now," he explained comparing Season 1 with Season 2. "Before, I'm meeting people, I'm adjusting to this really weird business I don't understand. Now, I kind of have a an understanding of what's going on, and I care about these people more than I did. So it's been, you know, a lot different."

Broderick admits The Valley is not the type of TV he would usually watch (he's more of a sports guy), but after having one season under his belt, he shares he had quite the fun summer. "I don't know if anyone had more fun than I did last summer."

Of course, this season is not without drama, especially as two couples  Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright and Jesse Lalley and Michelle Saniei, head for divorce. Broderick admits that there was a lot of dark and "negeative space" happening, but he chose to focus on the positive changes in his own life, including their engagement and pregnancy.

"They can have all the dark drama they want," he explained. "I love having the big things going on in my life with Kristen, because it makes it easier to block that out. There's so much dark, just negative space. There's so much hate between these couples as they split, and you know, I don't know, I find a way to have fun and focus on the positive things."

Broderick also teased his proposal to Kristen, which fans will get to see on camera. He admits the surprise was "not easy to pull off" with Kristen and that there were "a lot of nerves." He explained, "I'm actually also anxious to see [it], I don't remember all the things I alluded to. I feel like I almost blew it a number of times, and somehow she didn't pick up on, you know, the clues, so it ends up being a genuine surprise!"

The reality TV machinations certainly helped as well, he admits. "I don't know what other setting I'd have a drone flying around on this boat with me on one knee as the sun is setting in Hawaii. The way it all came together, there's no better way to capture a moment like that."

As Kristen continues to navigate the dramatic dynamics of the group, including her rift with Janet Caperna, "I think overall the season went great for her," he told us. "I mean, if anything, I am more the person in her ear [saying] we don't need more friends, we need less friends. As we move forward, as we bring more people into the world, we need to have a tight group that we can really count on.

"When people show that we can't count on them or they're bringing in negativity, you know, just things we don't want in our lives, we can cut them out," he added. "It's not necessarily out of hatred. It's out of self-preservation. You know, we want to keep our peaceful bubble together."

The Valley airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo.
