Israel operates medical facility in Quneitra

The Israeli army has begun operating a medical facility that it says is for “treating injured members of the Druze community” in the village of Hader in the Quneitra countryside, southern Syria.

The Israeli army had previously entered these areas and established military outposts following the fall of the Assad regime.

The Arabic spokesperson for the Israeli army, Avichay Adraee, stated on his account on the “X” platform today, Thursday, May 8, that the army has started “operating a mobile field facility for the medical classification of the injured in southern Syria, in the area of the village of Hader.”

According to Adraee, this facility is “part of multiple efforts being implemented by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to support the Syrian population from the Druze community and ensure their safety.”

The Israeli army continues to “monitor developments and is in a state of readiness to defend and respond to various scenarios,” according to the army spokesperson.

Adraee accompanied his statement with a video showing the facility and several injured individuals receiving treatment there.

On May 6, Adraee spoke about the evacuation of ten Syrian citizens from the Druze community for medical treatment inside Israel, adding that the injured were transported to the Ziv medical center in Safed in northern Israel after being injured inside Syrian territory.

Adraee did not specify the nature and circumstances of the injuries or how the injured were transported to Israel.

He noted that the Israeli army is deployed in southern Syria, stating that Israel is prepared to prevent the entry of what he described as “hostile forces” into the region and the Druze villages.

On May 3, Adraee mentioned that the Israeli army evacuated five Syrian Druze citizens to Israeli hospitals.

The army stated through its official account on May 1 that it deployed its forces along its borders with Syria to prevent the entry of “hostile forces” into the Druze villages.

Additionally, the Israeli army is monitoring developments and continues to raise its readiness for “defense and to deal with different scenarios,” according to his statement.

At that time, the Israeli army indicated that Tel Aviv had evacuated two Syrians to a medical center within Israel after they were injured in Syria, without specifying the circumstances of their injuries.

These statements coincide with security tensions in areas inhabited by Syrians from the Druze community in the Quneitra province and the cities and towns of Jaramana, Sahnaya, and Ashrafiat Sahnaya in rural Damascus.

However, community leaders from the Druze community have rejected Israeli intervention and have reached an agreement with the Damascus government to activate security and state institutions.

The tensions arose after the circulation of an audio recording that included disrespect towards the Prophet Muhammad, attributed to a Druze Sheikh, which he later denied.

Israel has intervened in the tensions, threatening to strike government targets if the latter involves itself in “committing acts of violence against the Druze.”

On May 2, Israel carried out an airstrike near the presidential palace building in Damascus, which it considered a “warning strike” against approaching the Druze villages.

At the end of April, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a joint statement that the Israeli army executed an air raid in Syria targeting an “armed group” that was preparing to attack a “Druze compound.”
