Pakistan said it shot down drones from India one day after India launched strikes on Pakistani-controlled territory, according to The Associated Press.
The AP reported that the Pakistani military said Indian attack drones that reached their country resulted in injuries to four soldiers.
A spokesperson for the Pakistani Army said that multiple Israeli-made drones were sent by India into Pakistan during the course of the previous night and through Thursday afternoon, with 25 drones shot down by Pakistan, the AP reported.
India’s forces “targeted air defense radars and systems” in several Pakistani areas, the Indian Defense Ministry said, according to the AP.
Early Wednesday, India struck Pakistani-controlled territory in response to tourists being massacred in Indian-controlled territory the prior month. Pakistan’s military said the Indian strikes killed 31 people and injured 57.
India’s Defense Ministry said that the strikes were aimed at nine sites “where terrorist attacks against India have been planned.”
Pakistan slammed the strikes, calling them an “unlawful act of war” on Wednesday. The country’s National Security Committee said in a statement that day that it “unequivocally condemned these illegal acts as blatant violations of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which manifestly constituted acts of war under international law.”
President Trump pushed for de-escalation between the two southeast Asian countries on Wednesday in the Oval Office, saying “I know both very well. I want to see them work it out.”
