(PINPOINT WEATHER) -- Thursday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day, as storms are likely to roll in later this afternoon and evening. We’ll want to be on the lookout for the chance of straight-line damaging winds, large hail, and a low-end risk for an isolated tornado.
This morning starts off cool and comfortable with 50s and 60s locked in. We’ll host a good amount of cloud cover as moisture increases over the Carolinas and a warm front approaches from the southwest. This comes as a cold front dips south over the Ohio Valley, leaving a stationary front parked right over the Carolinas.
Look for highs to peak in the low 80s Thursday with a mix of sun and clouds likely. Clouds will build late in the day with moisture traveling east along the stationary front and ahead of a low-pressure system. Look for storms to develop close to 5 PM east of I-77 before tracking south and east towards uptown.
Storms will have the potential to pack a punch as a slight risk for severe weather sits along I-85 and for northern areas. South and east of Uptown will be under a marginal risk for severe weather. These risks are level 1 and level 2 out of five and will mainly be for storms this afternoon.
Overnight lows will dip into the low 60s as we head into Friday, and another round of afternoon storms will finish off the workweek. Look for temperatures to rebound back into the low 80s and upper 70s with storms popping around 4 PM.
A cold front will usher in cooler temperatures for Mother's Day weekend and lower rain chances for Saturday & Sunday. We’ll sit in the low to mid-70s on Saturday and Sunday, with high storm chances and warmer temperatures returning early next week.
Thursday: Warm with a Mix of Sun & Clouds and Afternoon Storms. High: 82.
Thursday Night: Cool & Cloudy with Lingering Rain. Low: 62.
