NCAA revises settlement to address judge objection on roster limits

The NCAA has revised their $2.8 billion settlement to address Judge Claudia Wilken’s order to implement roster limits.

This order was given by Wilken on the basis that immediate roster limits would not be fair to athletes that could have benefitted from the proposed settlement but instead lost their spot on the roster (or could have) after the current year has concluded – those who would have been cut by the original deal.

In this revised settlement sent on Wednesday, lawyers proposed that the athletes affected could be “grandfathered in,” meaning any such athlete would be exempt from roster limits across the entirety of their stint in Division I.

The latest revised filing has been made in the House v. NCAA settlement, regarding roster limits. Any athlete who has been or would have been cut as a result of the settlement can be "grandfathered in," meaning they will not count against the new roster limits for the duration… pic.twitter.com/Wco5hLoVyt

As mentioned in the post above, whether or not a school wishes to retain those athletes is up to the individual programs. It also does not necessarily remove roster limits, as Wilken had originally ordered.

Soon after this revision was filed on Wednesday night, Judge Wilken allowed objectors time to file responses to the NCAA’s revision. In other words, for those simply looking for a timeline for a judgement on this whole event, a decision is unlikely to be made this week.
