Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket. The current India cricket team red-ball captain has decided to hang up his boots from the longest format, almost a year after he retired from the shortest format. Until very recently, Rohit had no desire to leave Test cricket.
During the Indian Premier League (IPL), he had expressed willingness to lead Team India against England in the upcoming Test series. However, it seems like the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) aren’t too keen on him continuing as India’s Test captain.
The BCCI are looking to pass the baton. With the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle coming up, they want someone else to take the leadership. Not so much his age, but Rohit’s form seems to be the biggest reason behind the decision.
