MOVIE star Halle Berry has shocked fans by ditching her underwear in a daring see-through outfit at the Met Gala.
The 58-year-old stepped out on Monday for The Met Gala 2025, as celebrities in their droves gathered at the iconic event hosted by Anna Wintour.
With a theme of Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, Halle looked sensational as she listened to the brief and picked a suitable ensemble.
She could be seen rocking a black gown on the red-turned-blue carpet, which had sheer panelling adorning it.
The extravagant gown hugged Halle’s figure and sailed all the way down to the ground, fanning out at the bottom.
With a plunging neckline, Halle’s ample assets were on full display, and thanks to the sheer panelling, her slender figure could easily be seen.
The Hollywood star ditched her underwear for the occasion, with her modesty almost uncovered completely.
She completed the look with a cropped satin jacket and a fascinator atop her head.
Halle also wore earrings and a sparkly necklace.
But despite her outfit ticking all of the right boxes, it sparked a little bit of outrage due to the revealing nature of it.
Reacting to Halle’s look on social media, fans were quick to point out how she had ditched her underwear.
PANTLESS LOOK
“Pls where the panties?” asked one person on X.
Another said: “Should’ve covered the private part.”
“Put some clothes on auntie,” demanded a third.
While a fourth wrote: “I’m seeing far too much.”
And a fifth brazenly added: “Okay, that’s not a dress that’s lingerie. I’ve worn stuff like that, but it was only to bed to warm things up, if you know what I mean, NOT in public. There’s something to be said for modesty.”
Superfine: Tailoring Black Style — 2025 Met Gala’s theme explained
This year's Met Gala theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style was announced on October 9, 2024, but what does it mean?
It is inspired by a new exhibit at the Costume Institute that focuses on Black style, notably Black dandyism from the 18th century through to its resurgence in the 1920s and 30s in the Harlem Renaissance and its influence on present day.
Dandyism speaks to elegant and often excessive fashion used for self-expression that often breaks norms and can be seen as a form of rebellion.
Attendees have been told that the dress code is “Tailored for you” and that the theme explores how fashion has been used to both enslave and liberate.
It is inspired by the book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism And The Styling Of Black Diasporic Identity (2009), written by professor and chair of Africana studies at Barnard College, Monica L Miller.
This exhibition marks a significant step in diversifying the Met’s collections and addressing historical biases in curatorial practices.
Andrew Bolton, the Curator in Charge, emphasized the importance of making fashion at The Met more accessible and inclusive.
But other fans were much more complimentary.
One gushed: “58 is the new 30. Period.”
A second person wrote: “Still beautiful as ever!!!”
While a third added: “Oh f**k YES!!!!”
And a fourth said: “My oh my oh my.”
ANNA’S APPROVAL?
This comes after Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour returned for her 25th year at the helm of the event since taking over in 1999.
It had long been rumored that Anna had to approve every single guest’s outfit – but this rumor has now been put to bed.
Anna denied the rife speculation in an interview with Good Morning America this week.
In the interview, Michael Strahan asked her point-blank if attendees needed her approval before they arrived on the carpet.
“No,” she replied with a laugh.
“Many call and ask for our advice, so we try and help some of them as best we can. Some, I have no idea.”
