Arsenal take on Paris Saint-Germain this week in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final, live on talkSPORT.
The Gunners are 1-0 down from the first leg at the Emirates thanks to Ousmane Dembele‘s goal, but it could have been so much worse.
Bradley Barcola, Desire Doue and Goncalo Ramos all had chances to extend the French giant’s lead, but they couldn’t take the opportunities.
That means Mikel Arteta‘s side head to Paris knowing that if they win by the match by two goals, they will progress to the final to play either Barcelona or Inter Milan.
With Liverpool having wrapped up the Premier League, this is the last thing the Gunners can fight for and is their biggest game of the season.
PSG vs Arsenal: Now or never
This is it for Arsenal, their season comes down to one match of football against one of the best teams in Europe.
Make no mistake, this is a very different PSG side to the one Arsenal easily beat in the league phase.
Luis Enrique has them purring right now, and they have some truly world-class players.
Of course, Arsenal do as well, but they will need to show more than they managed in the first leg.
It was a pretty limp performance from Arteta’s side, with set-pieces their only real threat.
If the Gunners fail to make the final, it will be another season without a trophy in a year that Liverpool and Newcastle have won things.
Tottenham or Manchester United might claim the Europa League, while Manchester City or Crystal Palace will win the FA Cup and Chelsea could claim the Europa Conference League.
Arteta has one major trophy as Arsenal managerGetty PSG’s 1-0 win the first leg was their first ever victory in six attempts against Arsenal (D3 L2). Both of their home games against the Gunners have finished 1-1 (March 1994, September 2016). Having been unbeaten in their first 13 away games against French sides in all competitions (W8 D5), Arsenal have now lost their last two visits against Rennes in 2019 and Lens in 2023. Only two teams have ever reached the UEFA Champions League final having lost the first leg of their semi-final tie at home, with Ajax overcoming Panathinaikos in 1995-96, and Tottenham doing the same against Ajax in 2018-19.PSG vs Arsenal: Team news
The hosts are sweating over the fitness of Dembele.
The forward limped off in north London with a hamstring problem.
It was confirmed to be minor, but he’s still doubtful to be involved here.
Elsewhere, after mass rotation at the weekend in Ligue 1, PSG will be expected to name a similar team to one that started at the Emirates.
If Dembele isn’t fit, Enrique will have to choose between Ramos or Barcola.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have concerns over the fitness of Jurrien Timber.
The Dutchman played no part in the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend.
Captain Martin Odegaard also limped off at the weekend and faces a late fitness test.
If they are out, they would join Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Jesus, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Riccardo Calafiori on the sidelines.
But Thomas Partey is back from suspension, while Kai Havertz has an outside chance of being involved.
Timber has added to Arsenal’s injury worriesGetty Both PSG and Arsenal are bidding to reach their second European Cup/UEFA Champions League final, with the French side doing so in 2019-20, and the Gunners in 2005-06. When winning the first leg of a European tie away from home, PSG have only been eliminated once (vs Man Utd in 2018-19), while the Gunners have never progressed when losing the first leg at home. PSG have won three of their last four UEFA Champions League home games, netting 14 goals across those three victories. However, they’ve lost twice at Parc des Princes this season (vs Liverpool and Atlético de Madrid), only losing three at home in the same campaign in 2020-21. Arsenal have won each of their last four away games in the UEFA Champions League – the Gunners have never won five in a row on the road across all European competition before.PSG vs Arsenal: What has been said?
Arteta hopes his players can use the frustration of losing at the weekend as fuel on Wednesday.
Speaking after the defeat to Bournemouth, he said: “We certainly wanted to create a positive vibe, a positive result would have really helped us to build what we wanted towards Wednesday.
“What we have created now is a lot of rage, anger, frustration and a bad feeling in the tummy.
“So let’s make sure we use that for Wednesday to have a massive performance in Paris, win the game and be in the [Champions League] final.”
Paris Saint-Germain have made 150 line-breaking passes that have broken the defensive line in the UEFA Champions League this season, second only to Bayern Munich (156). 25 have been by Ousmane Dembélé, the joint most of any player this campaign. Ousmane Dembélé’s winner in the first leg was his eighth goal in the UEFA Champions League this season – only Zlatan Ibrahimovic has netted more in a single campaign for PSG (10 in 2013-14). As well as completing the joint most passes on either team in the first leg (50), Arsenal’s Declan Rice made the most line-breaking passes in the final third (6). He leads all Gunners players in the UEFA Champions League this season for line-breaking passes leading to both shots (7) and goals (3). Paris SG’s João Neves has made 51 tackles in this season’s UEFA Champions League, the most by a midfielder in a season since Arturo Vidal in 2014-15 (52). He’s applied 756 high pressures to opponents in 2024-25, over 100 more than any other player.PSG vs Arsenal: Date and how to follow
