Driver leads police on pursuit from Firestone to Greeley

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident in which a man eluded officers from Firestone to Greeley last week after police say he was seen choking a woman in his vehicle northwest of Fort Lupton.

On Tuesday, deputies responded to a report of a disturbance with weapons at Weld County roads 18 and 23, just east of Firestone.

The caller reported seeing a car drive off the road and a man in the passenger seat choking a woman driver, the agency said. The man saw the caller from the vehicle, and police say the man exposed a black handgun in his waistband and simulated a “finger gun” at the caller.

The responding deputy issued an alert for the vehicle to all south Weld agencies, and the vehicle was spotted in Firestone. Officers tried to pull the driver over, but police say he fled north from officers.

Once the man got to Greeley, law enforcement stopped pursuing the vehicle. Greeley police said they were not involved, other than shutting down certain streets for public safety around 3:50 p.m.

A Weld deputy later spotted the vehicle at a trailer park in Greeley, but neither deputies nor a K-9 were able to locate the suspect or the victim, the agency said.

As of Friday, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident. Since then, nobody has been booked into the Weld County Jail on related charges, according to county arrest records.
