Diamondbacks’ Corbin Burnes to miss next start with shoulder issue

Arizona Diamondbacks right-handed pitcher Corbin Burnes will miss his next start due to right shoulder inflammation, according to azcentral’s Nick Piecoro.

Manager Torey Lovullo said Burnes has been dealing with fatigue in his throwing shoulder over his last two starts. The team opted to be cautious and evaluate the issue before allowing him to pitch again.

“We were with him, Lovullo said before game two of a three-game series versus the Philadelphia Phillies on May 3. ‘What are you thinking? What do you want to do?’ He’s like, ‘I’m good, let me just keep going.’ At some point, we just all decided the best thing to do, to get ahead of it, is let’s examine it, get some imaging, pull back if we need to and let him potentially skip a start, and he should be good for the rest of the year.”

Lovullo said Burnes did not travel with the team to Philadelphia and returned home on Friday to undergo an MRI.
