Watch: Virat Kohli takes over RCB captaincy mid-game after Rajat Patidar walks off injured vs CSK

Virat Kohli, on Saturday (May 3), donned the captain's hat once again for Royal Challengers Bengaluru during their match against Chennai Super Kings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The former RCB captain was seen leading the team after regular captain Rajat Patidar walked off to get some treatment on his finger. Patidar suffered a finger injury during the 11th over of the Chennai Super Kings' innings.

On the fourth ball of the over, Suyash Sharma bowled a short delivery to Ravindra Jadeja, and the latter hit the ball wide of Patidar, who was standing at extra-cover. The RCB captain dived to stop the ball and managed to get his fingers on i,t but could not prevent the ball from running away to the boundary for a four.

And in doing so, Patidar ended up suffering the injury. He looked in pain straightaway as he was seen holding his right hand. The physio came out running before Patidar decided to leave the field to get more treatment.

Meanwhile, CSK were on 140/2 at the end of the 13th over at the time of writing this report. Ayush Mhatre was unbeaten on 81 off 40 balls while Jadeja was batting on 40 off 22. Earlier in the innings, CSK lost the wickets of Shaik Rasheed and Sam Curran inside the powerplay before Jadeja and Mhatre steadied the ship.

While CSK have already been knocked out of IPL 2025, they will be eyeing a much-needed victory in the ongoing match to avenge the loss they suffered against RCB last month.

Earlier in the match, RCB finished their innings on 213/5. Romario Shepherd starred with the bat by hitting a 14-ball fifty that helped RCB collect as many as 54 runs from the final two overs. Virat Kohli (62) and Jacob Bethell (55) scored half-centuries for RCB as well.
