Ohio deputy dies after 'intentional act of violence' by father of man killed by police ...Middle East

CINCINNATI, Ohio (WCMH) -- A Hamilton County deputy died after he was hit by a car while directing traffic on Friday near the University of Cincinnati in what Gov. Mike DeWine called "an intentional act of violence."

The deputy was directing traffic at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Burnet Woods Drive when he was hit by a car, according to a report from WLWT. The deputy was taken to a hospital where he later died.

The car was allegedly driven by Rodney Hinton Jr., 38, whose 18-year-old son was reportedly shot and killed by Cincinnati police the previous day, WLWT reported. Hinton was charged with aggravated murder.

Video posted to social media by a WLWT reporter appears to show Hinton telling deputies in the courtroom, "He's going to be gone forever."

The deputy, who has not yet been identified, had retired from the department in December and was working a special detail for commencement, according to the report.

"Fran and I are saddened to learn about the Hamilton County deputy hit by a vehicle and killed in the line of duty today," DeWine said in a statement. "I have been briefed on the ongoing investigation and am sickened by what appears to be an intentional act of violence. We offer our sincere condolences to the deputy's family, friends, and colleagues."

"From everyone at the Pickaway County Sheriff's Office, our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office who lost one of their own in a senseless tragic incident," the sheriff's office wrote in a social media post. "Our thoughts and prayers also go out to the deputy's family and loved ones."

Hinton appeared in court Saturday morning, where no bond was set, according to WLWT. A hearing was scheduled for Tuesday morning.
