Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Suresh Raina revealed the team he would choose if given a chance to return to the IPL. Raina said that he would prefer to play for the Mumbai Indians (MI) over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and added that he would love to play with Rohit Sharma.
Suresh Raina represented only two franchises — Chennai Super Kings and the now-defunct Gujarat Lions — in his IPL career. The southpaw stepped away from all forms of cricket, including the IPL, in September 2022. His final appearance in the league came in October 2021 during a match against the Rajasthan Royals.
In an interview with Filmygyan, Raina revealed that if given a chance to return to the IPL, he would choose the Mumbai Indians. He expressed a desire to experience cricket in the West and play at Wankhede Stadium.
"MI. I’ve already played in the South, so I’d like to experience playing in the West. I’ve always wanted to play for MI. Imagine Rohit and me batting—he's opening, and then me. I think I would love to see that, playing eight games at one Wankhede wicket," Raina said.
It Would Be the Best for Me, Batting with Rohit - Suresh Raina
Raina said that it would be best for him to be part of a lineup featuring legendary players like Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, and Zaheer Khan. He described MI as the best franchise and said he would love the opportunity to be part of it.
"It would be the best for me, batting with Rohit. Then you’ve got Paaji and Rohit opening, me at three, followed by Pollard. Then there’s Bravo, Bhajju Pa, Ashish Nehra, and Zaheer Khan. And on top of that, you’re playing for the best franchise. I would absolutely love that," he added.

Suresh Raina’s Illustrious Career for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL
Suresh Raina is widely regarded as one of the most consistent performers in IPL history. Chennai Super Kings chose not to retain him following a poor run in the 2021 season. He entered the 2022 IPL mega auction with a base price of ₹2 crore but went unsold.
Over 11 seasons with the franchise, Raina scored 4,687 runs in 171 innings, including 33 fifties and a century. The left-handed batter is second in the list of all-time leading run-scorers for CSK. He played a pivotal role in CSK's title triumphs in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021.
Overall, Raina played 205 IPL matches and scored 5,528 runs at an average of 32.52 and a strike rate of over 136. The southpaw announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020, alongside MS Dhoni. Raina is currently involved in commentary stints in the ongoing edition of the cash-rich league.
